Pharmaceutical Technical Operations Placement

This is an opportunity to join our dedicated and talented team within the Pharmaceutical Technical Operations team for 12 months at our site in Cramlington, Northumberland. You would support solid oral dose manufacturing processes as a placement student and help build a strong foundation for success in your future.

The Pharmaceutical Technical Operations function works closely with the wider business, including departments on site and off, to support our tablet manufacturing processes. The team offer technical guidance and support to maintain, improve and support manufacture processes. You will be part of a team instrumental in validation strategy for in-line products at the site, technical transfer of new sources of materials, product compliance, process trouble shooting and improvement. We are a multidisciplinary site and you will build and work with cross functional teams across areas including Production, Engineering and Quality.

Key Objectives and Responsibilities

Primary responsibility of this placement are:

  • To provide technical support for all processes involved in the manufacture of solid dose oral products on site.
  • To implement process improvement projects.
  • To support investigations and follow up issues arising from manufacturing or laboratory atypicals, establishing assignable causes for atypical processing events and propose appropriate actions to minimise rework and improve process capability.
  • To participate in process and cleaning validation activities on site, provide technical manufacturing assistance with the preparation of validation protocols and oversee in-process validation sampling.
  • To undertake annual product and cleaning reviews.
  • To comply with the standards in MSD policies, procedures, guidelines and SOPs.

Education and Experience

  • Undertaking a BSc (Hons) or MSc degree in a related discipline (e.g. Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy or Pharmaceutical Science).
  • On course for a minimum 2:1 degree
  • Penultimate year of study, returning to your degree course at the end of the placement

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to meet fellow students before commencing the placement and will partake in a two week handover period at the beginning of their placement with the current student.
