Purchasing Placements

More than half of every pound we collect is spent within our Supply Base, so you can make a big impact in Purchasing. Finding the best Suppliers. Negotiating for sustainability. Working with partners across our Supply Chain. Developing optimal strategies. There is more to Purchasing than you’d expect!

The EMEA purchasing function is primarily responsible for the management of suppliers in this region supplying products to our UK and overseas locations, and provides an exciting opportunity to sample a purchasing career in a dynamic global business environment.

The placement is a one-year structured role, key elements can include :-

  • Providing dedicated support to one or more sourcing teams within the office
  • Working with a group of suppliers to assist on Purchase Order management, cost reduction, capacity planning, quality performance and risk mitigation
  • Specific project work in support of functional objectives
  • Involvement in Functional Excellence – opportunity to work with other Business Units in the region to help share common processes, tools and resources to better achieve business goals
  • Data analysis to support Purchasing KPIs and specific project requirements
  • Engagement with other functions, including Supplier Quality, Material Planning, Finance and Engineering
  • Purchase assigned items and executes buying strategies set out by the function at optimum cost and lead times
  • Analyse sourcing information and present findings for cost reduction, process improvement while maintaining a high quality product and delivery of service both within the function and customers both internal and external.
  • Involvement both supporting and leading various projects from conception to closure within cost and on time.
  • Procures inventory, supplies and capital goods, obtains quotations and raises orders on vendors.
  • Expedites orders to ensure that they are delivered on time in full.
  • Analyse sourcing and purchasing initiatives. Follows processes in support of the delivery of cost effective and high quality goods and services.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Working towards a degree – preferably Business related / Supply Chain / Project Management or Engineering although not limited to these subjects
  • Positive attitude, strong personal motivation
  • Needs to be able to communicate well within a team
  • IT Skills/programme knowledge
  • Presence of a mentor as a guide through the placement year
  • Tools and skills training specific to the role
  • Personal development plan with programme focusing on soft skills
