BMW Group Engine Plant Placement

The Hams Hall plant, located just outside Birmingham, in the UK, produces the latest generation of three and four cylinder petrol engines. Production also includes the machining of key engine components. Producing seven days a week, a finished engine leaves the production line every minute, and more than 1.4 million components are machined at the plant each year.

To ensure that we are continually developing our workforce, we are looking for talented and motivated people who will inspire and shape our future business. Each year we offer a number of internship opportunities and are keen to hear from you if you are currently studying an undergraduate degree and are on track for a 2:1 or 1st class final result.

  • Control Engineering & Maintenance Planning – providing technical support service to the engine assembly operations function at BMW Hams Hall plant, involving asset and reliability (maintenance planning) and control engineering.
  • Engine Assembly: With both high and low volume assembly lines, your role will involve a high focus on productivity improvements using LEAN tools and new product integration and process development.
  • Materials & Process Analysis: This department is best suited to anyone with a passion for Chemistry, a love of cars! With fully equipped, state of the art equipment it provides an opportunity to apply science in a ‘hands on’ way to improve the quality of our products and processes.
  • IT: The role supports the production operations with a suite of applications e.g SAP ERP, SAP SCM, Warehouse Controls systems. The responsibility is to maintain these applications and enhance them in line with customer requirements.
  • Logistics: Logistics placement roles vary from material control & transport, to physical logistics. With a focus on innovation and lean manufacturing, we’re looking for candidates with an interest in process improvement and solutions for industry 4.0.
  • HR: The successful candidate will work closely with the Manufacturing areas on all aspects of managing people including being responsible for development, training and recruitment. Responsible for Key performance indicators and targets to name a few.

We offer a competitive salary of £17,500 and a range of benefits including a pension scheme, generous holiday allowance and a subsidised on-site restaurant. As a placement student you will also have the opportunity to take part in the testing of new vehicles through one of our car schemes. Throughout your placement you will be supported by our experts in your chosen field, as well as being surrounded by many fellow placement students.

  • Stage 3: Telephone interview with the recruitment team
  • Stage 4: Face to face interview with the hiring manager or attendance at an assessment center
