Human Resources Placement

Our kind of HR is one that partners closely with the business. As a team, we pull together and chip in the moment help is needed. We love to brainstorm ideas and we drive innovation in our work. Ensuring our working practices are inclusive is top of our agenda.

If that’s your kind of HR too, we’d love to hear from you. We’re looking for a HR Intern to join us on a sandwich placement year.

We’re a small team with lots of ambitious projects so as well as gaining plenty of practical HR skills, you’ll have the opportunity get involved in a range of exciting projects.

Please note this is a 12 month fixed term contract and is being offered as a sandwich placement starting in Summer 2019.

Your role:

Some of the things you can expect to do during your placement include:

  • Administer new joiner processes and inductions in conjunction with the Recruitment Adviser
  • Support the HR Business Partner with employee leaver processes
  • Eventually lead on ensuring the payroll is processed accurately and on time each month
  • Administer changes to the Group personal pension plan (GPP), liaise with staff about auto-enrolment arrangements and ensure compliance in this area
  • Administer a variety of staff benefit schemes
  • Maintain the data on the HR system, running management information reports when needed. You’ll also guide staff in utilising the self-service HR system
  • Work with the Recruitment Adviser to manage resourcing activity
  • Monitor the HR inbox and respond to reference requests and other general queries in a timely manner
  • Maintain the ABI Organisation chart and ensure policies and procedures on the ABI intranet are up to date
  • Assist with the end of year pay review and total reward statements
  • Manage the HR filing system, taking ownership for archiving files as appropriate and ensuring compliance with GDPR legislation
  • Work on HR projects and initiatives as required, taking the lead for particular actions and workstreams as necessary

Where can this role take you?

With a supportive environment, the fantastic exposure you get to lots of people in the industry and the knowledge you’ll build on a range of HR, learning and development and recruitment activities, the ABI is a great place to set you up for your future career.

What training and benefits are offered?

On your first day we’ll take you through a full company induction. You’ll then have inductions to get you up to speed with anything from Events to how our finances work, plus one to ones with relevant colleagues. Everyone goes on the CII Introduction to Insurance course and will receive plenty of on the job training. We host various Staff Learning Events throughout the year and you will be able to attend relevant ABI and industry events.

Additional training will be driven by your own personal needs and ambitions and we have a range of courses as part of our Learning and Development offering.

We’re looking for:

No prior work experience is necessary, if you have an interest in developing a career in HR and a positive, mature attitude to work, we want to hear from you. Our recruitment process is designed to test your potential, not your CV. Some of the things we will look for are

  • Excellent communication skills
  • A positive, enthusiastic attitude to work and learning
  • A collaborative and helpful team player
  • Brilliant organisation skills and an eagle-eyed attention to detail
  • A well-reasoned and diplomatic approach to challenging situations

You’ll also need to be studying a related course and be eligible to complete a year-long placement starting by September 2019.
