Environment and Sustainable Development Placement

Who you are

With strong project management skills and a close attention to detail, you’re great at organising tasks and people. You’re competent in using IT applications, particularly working with and analysing data in spreadsheets. You have strong written and verbal communication skills and are able to influence others in the decision-making process. Ideally, you’ll have some experience of managing environmental or sustainability issues.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be helping to manage Network Rail’s environmental and social performance through implementing responsible business practices. Your work will support communities and manage the reputation of our business. You could be researching and writing case studies or reports based on incidents or best practice, supporting awareness activities, offering technical support, or collecting and analysing data on site.

Why you should choose this placement

Network Rail is among the largest users of energy nationally, the fourth biggest landowner in Britain, and has 22 million lineside neighbours so the opportunity to make an impact is huge. This is your chance to play a part in developing solutions to some of the country’s most important issues.

Entry requirements

You must be in your penultimate year and be on course to achieve at least a 2:2, in a specialist environment, engineering, geography or sustainability-led degree.
