Procurement Placement

Procurement interns at Rolls-Royce work collaboratively across business functions and with our external suppliers to ensure we maximise value from our supply base. As a Group, Rolls-Royce spends billions with external companies, so supplier performance and relationships are key when it comes to delivering overall business results.

As part of our expert team, you’ll build relationships that get the best from our global suppliers and work with international teams to make improvements at every stage of the procurement process. That could involve liaising directly with suppliers or supporting our campaign to drive efficiency and effectiveness in all that we do. It's an exciting place to begin your career with us. Not only will you be making a tangible contribution on live projects, you’ll also be empowered to share your ideas about how we can excel. Here, you can make a difference to be proud of.

The programme

The Procurement Internship is a challenging and rewarding introduction to a career in purchasing. One that will see you take on responsibility across a variety of projects and gain exposure to the breadth of what our Procurement team accomplishes. Over 12 months, you’ll complete two placements, partnering with highly qualified experts from across the business as you learn what it means to work in areas like Buying, Value Improvement and Forward Sourcing. And you won’t just develop your strategic and stakeholder management skills. You’ll also gain a technical understanding of our manufacturing and engineering operations, experience how our international business works together, and come to understand the important part Procurement plays in all of it.

What you’ll do

The exact scope of what you’ll achieve will depend on where your placements take you. If you join Value Improvement, for example, you’ll develop an understanding of what drives the cost of the parts we buy and use that to maximise the value of our spend. That will mean learning about manufacturing processes and cost modelling, and developing an ability to read engineering drawings. Or if you take on a Buying role, you’re likely to be responsible for a group of suppliers. Either way, you can expect to develop negotiation and supplier management skills, to influence commodity strategy and to work across functions to deliver goals. Wherever you work, you’ll take real ownership of your projects and be accountable for their successful delivery.

What you’ll need

We’re looking for people with an affinity for business – you’ll be keen to develop your business knowledge by working with external companies. You’ll also need great communication skills developed through well-rounded life experience – academically, socially and in any previous work situations. Able to apply your intellect, creativity and determination to contribute effectively, you’ll work with integrity across every aspect of every project. You should also be on course to achieve at least a 2:1 degree, or a comparable qualification. Flexibility is important too, as you could be based at any of our sites. Ambitious and driven, you’ll be excited about the fact that this internship could lead to a place on our graduate programme.

What you’ll get

  • £17,850 pa (pro rata)
  • Learn from experts
  • The chance to join our graduate programme if you perform well
  • Leisure facilities and numerous sports societies and social activities
