Student Placement Programme

Are you looking to gain great commercial exposure and 12 months' practical experience that will help you secure a career opportunity when you complete your degree? Then we might be the business for you!

All of our 12-month Student Placements are based from our Birmingham head office and will involve real, practical work and often include specific projects that add value to our business as well as showcasing your talents.

There is a strong focus on analytical and problem-solving abilities, with all our placements requiring these 2 key attributes as well as the ability to communicate with internal teams and other partner organisations.

Many of the students that join us often return to join our Graduate Programme as a direct entrant once they compete their degree.

So what kind of experience can we offer you? Below is a brief outline of just some of our business areas':

Yield Analyst - Commercial Team

Using strong analytical skills, problem solving and data analysis, this role focuses on ensuring the customers are offered the right ticket, on the right train to maximise our revenue and minimise overcrowding to our customers.

Digital Assistant - Marketing Team

As an organised, analytical and effective communicator you will already have a keen interest in digital marketing. This role will involve working with our digital agencies and ensuring our website content is maintained and effective SEO optimisation is realised, along with analysing our competitor's propositions.

Resourcing - Production Team

With a strong statistical bias, you will be involved in the planning and structuring of our traincrew staffing operations - Ensuring we have the right teams on the right trains, in the right locations, at all times.

Timetabling - Production Team

You will be working as an integral part of our planning team, responsible for ensuring we achieve our timetable, liaising with other train operators and ensuring we have the right train configurations, in the right locations at the right time.

Performance - Production Team

If you enjoy working with large amounts of data, interpreting information and analysing performance, this might be the role for you. You will also be liaising with other train operators and Network Rail around our punctuality and service levels and ensuring we offer a reliable and punctual service to our customers.

Human Resources

Working within our HR team you will be involved in process change projects. These will all ultimately be focused on delivering efficient and timely services to our internal customers. The HR team is comprised of learning & development, recruitment and employee relations along with employee engagement and you will be working on real projects that can improve our service offering.

Customer Service

From our on-board catering through to ensuring our trains are clean, service standards are maintained and managing our front line colleagues, the Customer Service team covers all customer facing activities on our trains.

What happens next?

You need to complete your online applications and we will then send out a link to some online assessments that you need to undertake.

If you pass the online assessments we shall then ask for a little more information around your placement preferences and then invite selected candidates to meet us face to face in November and December.

The Student Placement Programme begins on Monday 3rd July 2019.
