What does a Finance industrial placement have to offer?

Each of our placements is as different as the areas they support but wherever you are placed you will be guaranteed to gain both technical and interpersonal skills, for example:

• Working with stakeholders at different levels across the business
• Questioning and challenging current processes to drive improvement
• Presentation skills
• Working cross-functionally with other teams
• Contributing to month-end reporting packs for senior stakeholders
• Analysing data and identifying issues
• Gaining an insight into what finance means in industry
• Developing your knowledge of financial systems and processes
• Building an understanding of drivers of profit and performance
• Opportunities to be involved in short and longer-term projects throughout the year

We are looking for people who have strong communication skills, the ability to be challenged and are motivated by the idea of a career in finance with GSK. An accounting or finance background is not necessary as you will gain all the skills you require on the job.

Successful applicants must complete a video interview stage and Assessment Centres will be held from November 2018.

We recruit on an on-going basis and prioritise applications based on the application date.

We will close for applications when we have filled our assessment centre dates.

Do I have the skills?

No prior finance knowledge is necessary. In fact we’re looking for students from different backgrounds to bring their fresh perspective into finance with a willingness to learn and an analytical mind.

You should be on track for a 2.1 or above in your undergraduate degree. We’re particularly looking for business, management, economics, maths and science students.
Awarded at least an ‘A’ grade for GCSE Maths OR awarded grade ‘A’ or ‘B’ at A Level Maths. 300 UCAS points from 3 A Levels, not including general studies

Your industrial placement must be recognised or supported by your university.
Whatever your degree, you'll be a self-starter with a strong interest in finance. Excellent communication skills are essential to establishing good working relationships, while strong influencing, analytical and multi-tasking skills will be required for your demanding roles. You should also have a resilient personality and a strong commercial mindset.
