Marketing Placement

In marketing you could find yourself launching a new product or creating a multimedia campaign for a world famous brand. You could uncover invaluable insights by looking at things from our customers’ point of view or develop innovative new ways to help patients, consumers and medical professionals everywhere. As a marketing placement student you will enjoy a varied role in a fast paced, creative environment. We have marketing roles available across each sector of J&J, each offering a different type of marketing experience.

Consumer Placements

As a placement student in our Consumer business you could work in 3 different marketing roles:

  • Brand Marketing
  • Digital Marketing
  • Consumer Analytics

Brand Marketing: As part of the regional Total Brand Experience Team, your focus will be on enabling profound brand experiences across our portfolio of digital properties in EMEA. You will be involved in managing digital surgeries for our marketers to drive knowledge and expertise; partnering with IT and brands to find ways of maximizing user experiences across our sites; delving into analytics to derive how we could be improving our sites performance and engagement; or piloting new tools and technologies to engage better with our consumers.

You will work in one of our brand teams which include iconic household names such as LISTERINE®, JOHNSON’S®, CALPOL® and NEUTROGENA®. This is a fast-paced working environment where you will have the opportunity to lead and take ownership of team projects, developing your project management skills and gaining valuable experience. It is a varied role and you may find yourself creating digital content, managing social media campaigns, running PR activity, launching websites or leading internal events. You will analyse market and sales data to understand the performance of your brand and the category, and to uncover key insights which can be turned into action. You will manage the brand budget and liaise with finance and suppliers to rectify any issues with invoicing. You will also have the opportunity to interact with various functions such as sales, shopper marketing and finance, as well as our agency partners, to ensure campaigns are well executed and delivered on time.

Media & Digital Marketing: In media & digital marketing, you could be working with partners like Google, Amazon and Facebook; owning and creating digital content for our brands and learning how to develop media campaigns to support key business initiatives such as eCommerce. You could be creating multi-channel digital campaigns and analysing results to optimise future performance, learning about how data can be used to deliver more personalised experiences for our consumers and supporting in the building and enhancement of our websites.

You could find yourself analyzing the success of campaigns and delivering your findings to the business so that we can strengthen future campaigns. In addition to this, you'll be working with the media agency to review the data behind the social media and you will need analytical skills to emphasise and drive your own recommendations to better the strategy and increase ROI from social advertising.

Consumer Analytics: As part of the Insights team, you will work across Northern Europe for all categories and brands where J&J plays. You will have multiple stakeholders, although primarily work with the Marketing teams, and have the opportunity to speak to some of the senior leaders in the business. J&J is committed to driving consumer and shopper insights to the heart of the business, and the data and reports you would be involved in producing, updating and investigating form a core part of this ambition. Analytics is a capability many large companies are recruiting for – this role will really help to drive your skills in this area, as well as gaining experience in supporting the wider teams on building this skillset too.

Pharmaceutical Placements

If you are based in our Pharmaceutical business you will support the marketing of products in a particular therapy area such as oncology, diabetes or immunology. Placement students in our Pharmaceutical sector are heavily involved in PR events such as educational awareness events or product launches and also develop advertising materials and mobile apps for our sales force.

Medical Devices Placements

In our Medical Devices business, marketing placement students have the chance to work on key parts of the business such as orthopaedics, neurology, cardiology, minimally invasive surgery, wound management and women’s health. Placement students can let their creativity shine through developing promotional adverts and video content for internal communications, being heavily involved in the events planning process and managing a number of key supplier relationships.

VisionCare Placements

Being part of the J&J Vision team you will work on a world leading brand: ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses. With us, you will have the chance to get a truly rounded marketing experience being immersed in both consumer and professional marketing driving promotional activities in-store and digitally.

Main duties and responsibilities:

Duties vary by sector and department

  • Coordination of online activity such as digital content across websites, mobile sites and social media
  • Analysis of market research and sales data
  • Copy writing and advert design
  • Running PR activity and supporting key events
  • Procurement excellence and copy approval
  • Monitor industry press releases and market research
  • Support all internal communication strategies including video production and literature design
  • Support ad hoc projects around activities such as Corporate Social Responsibility

Requirements of the role:

  • 2 years of degree level study completed
  • A minimum of 2:1 achieved in first year of study
  • Business related, design and bio science degree types preferred
