Research Analyst - Current Account Switch Service (CASS)

Purpose of Job

To analyse and contribute to Bacs’ comprehensive suite of research used to aid the development of the Current Account Switch Service (CASS). Principally this role will focus on data analysis and report preparation but, due to the project based working style, a wider understanding of quantitative research methods would be desirable. The role will also enable the right candidate to diversify and enhance their skill set by supporting the CASS Product Development Manager in evolving products and services.

Main Activities and Responsibilities

  • Acquire data from primary and secondary data sources and maintain a database/data archive.
  • Identify, analyse and interpret patterns in large, complex datasets.
  • Procure and conduct data analysis and manipulation to input into the development of consumer and business models.
  • Running “what-if” scenarios using consumer and business models for CASS team on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Analyse quantitative and qualitative research results to identify interesting insights and trends.
  • Presenting and distributing research results and developments to key stakeholders.
  • Actively review industry research for insight on Market Dynamics, Effective Infrastructure, changes in Banking Market etc.
  • Actively review current account market activity for insights such as advertising activity and product innovations in the market.
  • Perform iterative reviews of literature on the current account market and the switching industry in general, to aid the CASS strategy and inform research work moving forwards.
  • Identify possible measures of competition in the market for current accounts, and how such measures could be quantified and tracked.
  • Quantification of complex concepts, such as inertia in the current account market, through the use of data science and data modelling techniques.
  • Preparation of reports summarising the above activities that could form the basis of engagement with key stakeholders.
  • Perform ad-hoc data analysis for CASS Team and Strategy Team when required.

Job-specific competencies

  • Experience in conducting analysis of large datasets
  • Studying a relevant subject (e.g. Mathematics, Computer Science or Economics) at degree level
  • Interest in how quantitative methods can be applied to business strategy
  • Knowledge of a computer programming language or statistical software package (i.e. SPSS, SAS, R)

Scope

  • The role will be a 13 month fixed term contract starting in August 2018.
  • Member of the CASS team, reporting directly to the CASS Product Development Manager London based but required to travel on occasion within UK.

Possible Working Styles

Regular Mixed Working - Work can be carried out effectively at home or remotely on a regular basis (e.g. once a week, once every two weeks).
