About Association of British Insurers

The ABI represents the UK insurance and Long Term Savings industry. This is no ordinary industry – we are the largest exporter of insurance in the world and play an essential part in the UK’s economy. We manage investments of over £1.6 trillion and pay nearly £12bn in taxes to the Government. The industry employs around 300,000 people and whether it’s saving into a pension or insuring your car, nearly everyone in the country buys our members’ products at some point.

Member Relations Placement

The Member Relations team supports the Association of British Insurers (ABI) by offering important insight into its 250 members. Your role will be to keep abreast of member news and communicate what's most important back to the ABI staff network. A key part of your job will also be to keep our Customer Relationship Management system (CRM) up to date.

Your manager will be the Assistant Director, Head of Member Relations, Partnerships and Events and they'll help you gain real insight into working in the corporate world. You'll be in the unique position of communicating with everyone at the ABI - from the Director General to the Assistant population - and you'll be their prime point of contact for all things member related.

Please note this is a 12 month fixed term contract and is being offered as a sandwich placement starting in Summer 2018.

Your role

  • Research ongoing developments and the latest news on ABI's member firms and effectively communicate that information internally to ABI colleagues.
  • Research and provide high quality data analysis of opportunities in the insurance and related business markets.
  • Stay on top of member news and keep the ABI's CRM database up to date.
  • Work in collaboration with colleagues at the ABI, in particular in Events, Finance and Directorate Support, to ensure accurate data is collected.
  • Help the Events team run member events - this could be anything from managing the registration desk to member liaison and relationship management.
  • Provide ad hoc research and analysis for briefings.

We're looking for:

It's essential you've had some experience of producing research and analysis - either in your studies or at work - as you'll help keep our member profiles up to date and accurate.

You'll need to be inquisitive about the world around you. If you spot a problem, you'll be the type of person that goes away and researches it and comes back with a few ideas on how to tackle the issue.

As you'll be talking to the whole of the ABI and potentially taking care of members at events, a natural, confident communication style is a must.

Given we work with the UK insurance market, you'll need to be curious about the industry and interested in building a career in a corporate environment.

Interested?

Please note that as part of your application, we will ask questions regarding your background to support our commitment to maintaining diversity and inclusion in our workforce. This includes not discriminating under the Equality Act 2010, and building an accurate picture of the make-up of the workforce in encouraging equality and diversity.

Answering these questions is entirely voluntary and the information you provide will stay confidential, and be stored securely. Access is limited to only relevant and necessary staff members.
