About Northern Rail

Northern plays a vital role in the north of England by connecting tens of thousands of people, and more every day, to work, leisure and education. Our aim is to connect people to opportunities by providing a reliable and friendly train service. We have made significant progress since we started but there is much more that we want to achieve.

Placement Year

The Northern Year in Industry Placement is a scheme that is designed to attract and develop talented young people into the Rail Industry; we will offer you an opportunity to spend 44 weeks working as part of our team to help you get your career off to a great start. We offer a variety of placements across the business including opportunities to work in Operations, Finance, HR, Revenue & Customer Service, Communications and Marketing.

During the programme we will equip you with the skills and the practical experiences to become a great manager of the future. Whilst Northern is a major rail operating company we offer a range of opportunities for placement across our network and central functions, so during your time with us we will provide you with as much exposure to this area of our business as possible in that time, and as part of the scheme you will gain experience within different areas of the business and so much more!

Show us your great potential and we will show you a whole host of great growth opportunities that we can offer you.
