Mechanical / Tooling Placement

This exciting opportunity based in PSP Tooling department at ASM Assembly Systems, is available on a 13 month work placement for undergraduate students seeking sandwich placements as part of their studies. The anticipated start date for this placement would be July 2018.

The main purpose of this role is to provide the student with industrial experience in mechanical design, test and development.

Your duties and responsibilities:

  • This is an entry-level position to the Tooling division of the ASM Assembly Systems and hence responsibilities will be dependent on experience to date, the jobholder will be responsible for a few aspects of the development cycle. (e.g. in simple terms: - generation of solutions and testing). In addition, you will tend to concentrate on build and development work of mechanical systems and liaise with Team/ Project Leader/s to clarify objectives.
  • To learn how prototype and production equipment is developed using CAD systems (Solidworks).
  • To learn how to build initial design/ prototype, with or without outside assistance.
  • Produce and complete appropriate documentation related to the system design process e.g. technical drawings, 3D CAD (Solidworks), etc.

Your profile:

  • Completed first or second year of degree course in Mechanical Engineering, or similar subject.
  • Be able to demonstrate part competence in own discipline; breadth of specialism limited within the major aspects of Mechanical Engineering.
  • Able to receive and understand relatively straight-forward instructions for direction and guidance.
  • Able to develop skills in basic theories, practices or procedures in one or more ‘skill-areas’ through formal training.
  • Able to apply basic knowledge/ skills to own work.

  • Able to build stable and useful working relationships; able to co-ordinate effectively with others.
