Mechanical / Design Engineering Placement
This exciting opportunity based in Supply Chain Management (SCM) New Products department at ASM Assembly Systems, is available on a 13 month work placement for undergraduate students seeking sandwich placements as part of their studies. The anticipated start date for this placement would be July 2018.
The main purpose of this role is to provide engineering support within the SCM New Products team with a focus on Design for Manufacturer, materials and vendor selection, drawing and BOM accuracy and design of tooling, jigs, fixtures and test equipment.
Your duties and responsibilities:
- Working closely within a small team of Project Engineers that ensures smooth handover of NPi projects from Engineering and release of products to operations.
- Review and approve BOM accuracy and structure and become owner of BOM’s through the design life cycle.
- Complete project deliverables as required to agreed targets (time, cost, quality).
- Support technicians on day to day assembly and fault finding to enable pre-production build of NPI products.
- Built to the correct quality within the build process.
- Identify where there is a need for fixture, Jig and test equipment to support production and enable fast Time to Market (TTM).
Your profile:
- Currently studying for a degree in an Engineering or Production Engineering qualification.
- Experience in the use of Pro-Engineer (CREO) or other 3D CAD/CAE tools.
- Experience in the use of DFM/DFA and FMEA tools.
- An understanding of modern manufacturing methods to include current machining/fabrication techniques, plastic mouldings, vacuum forming, plastic and metal extrusions and the use of electro-mechanical assembly processes.
- Understand the milestones within projects and deliver on agreed targets (time, cost, quality).
- Through appropriate testing procedures, ensure any new parts or assemblies are ‘fit for purpose’ and in line with overall design requirements.
- Able to identify and solve, from first principles, unusual/complex technical problems.
