Intellectual Property Administrator Placement

This exciting opportunity based in the Intellectual Property department at ASM Assembly Systems, is available on a 13 month work placement for undergraduate students seeking sandwich placements as part of their studies. The anticipated start date for this placement would be July 2018.

The main purpose of this role is to gain an understanding of ASM’s Intellectual Property and support, progress and record Intellectual Property Applications (cradle to grave), Infringement claims (both directions), NDA’s and all other IP transactions.

Your duties and responsibilities:

  • Chronicle Intellectual Property transactions using text manipulation tools as appropriate. Intellectual Property Transactions will include events reported by the patent attorneys, e.g. filing, examination reports, and grants in respect of patent, design, and trade mark applications.
  • Act as a source of contact for day to day operational IP and technology transfer issues including assisting in preparation and recording of confidentiality (non- disclosure) agreements to ensuring the protection of ASM’s intellectual property
  • Support any objection or otherwise infringement of our rights by others and ensure that the necessary evidence to support our case is obtained and presented to the patent attorneys. Similarly, act as necessary to ensure we do not infringe on others.
  • Liaise with patent attorneys, monitoring their progress and reporting IP activities as required with ASM Manager’s.

Your profile:

  • Qualified or currently studying for a degree in Law or an Engineering field, with a view to progressing to an Intellectual Property related discipline.
  • Able to describe, both written and orally, systems, machines, and their operation or ability to learn.
  • Able to communicate effectively face to face and in writing with people at all levels in an organisation.
  • A strong sense of order, efficiency, and completeness, and able to create systems to achieve this
  • Able to apply a logical and systematic approach when solving relatively complex problems.
  • Approachable and responsive to new ideas.
  • Able to organise own time and workload to deliver against tasks set by others, with a medium to short term horizon.
