Intelligent Traffic Systems Engineering Placement
From delivering and servicing trains for use in the UK, to intelligent signalling and traffic systems, our mission is to help get people and goods to where they need to go. Our solutions improve and support rail and traffic flow in congested urban and inter-urban areas, as well as connecting our cities. Our innovation in mobility makes our cities more liveable and appealing, by making them more efficient and environmentally-friendly, and improving their transport network performance reliability. We want year long industrial placement students ready to help Siemens shape entire industries, cities and even countries.
The Challenge
You will be a valuable team member working on a variety of projects during the placement. You will be mentored and supported by a senior member of the team throughout your time here. Placement students are given the opportunity to grow their skills and be responsible for solving real world problems, based on their personal strengths and interests. Some examples of previous placement projects include:
- Creating new tools for autonomous vehicle infrastructure
- Developing android applications for granting vehicle priority
- Advancing our hardware-in-the-loop simulation capabilities
- Writing automated testing scripts for environmental sensors
- Designing new mechanical solutions for traffic management products
- Data analysis projects of new hardware solutions
- Developing Traffic Management Software Solutions/Products
What are we looking for from a future maker?
- Good communication skills – this is essential for working successfully as a team and with customers.
- Problem solver – a daily activity for any engineer.
- Innovative – don’t be afraid to challenge the norm, or a senior manager.
The Candidate
- You should be working towards a degree in Engineering (Electronic, Software, Mechanical, Product or equivalent) or an IT related subject (Data scientist, Computer Programming or equivalent)
- IT Literate – Microsoft Office
- Experience of any of the following development languages or tools would be beneficial (it is not expected that a candidate would have experience in all of these areas): C, C++, C#, Java, SQL, SharePoint, CAD modelling tools
What else do I need to know?
There are three roles available for a 12 Month Fixed Term Contract, starting in the Summer 2018.
