Finance Placement

We are recruiting for a bright and talented intern, keen to begin a career in Finance and Accounting, to join our International corporate finance team on a full time, paid one year internship.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious individual to gain experience with one of the world’s leading hospitality companies and work as part of a team to support our portfolio of award winning, global brands. Our international portfolio consists of over 2000 hotels and entities in countries across the Globe from Canada and Central & South America to Europe, Middle East and Africa to Asia and Australia across twelvee brands ranging from mid-market through to award winning luxury destinations. The region is particularly dynamic in terms of development with about 5 new openings per month. You will directly deal with hotels and owners in many different countries, time zones and cultures as well as account for entries in most currencies of the world.

The intern will be fully immersed in the everyday running of the corporate finance function and often deal with other departments like billing, treasury and tax –full details below.

Based within a busy working environment in Hilton’s Watford office– the position will provide great exposure to all aspects of accounting and finance and we have a history of asking our intern students back and offering a full time analyst position after their graduation together with a study package towards ACCA or CIMA.

Ideally, the candidate will be available to start by July 2018

What will I be doing?

Organisation Activities 35%

  • Work with key stakeholders and departments to deliver appropriate levels of support
  • Communicate progress against deliverables and project deadlines to manager
  • Support the team to maximise efficiency and effectiveness of processes
  • Help to manages cross-functional links to other finance and accounting teams teams
  • Adhere to Management Reporting deadlines to ensure overall effectiveness

Controlling Activities 60%

  • Perform variance analysis, evaluation, analysis of business performance, ad-hoc reporting requests, and recommend actions to meet Hilton financial objectives.
  • Support the coordination with third-party service providers (outsourcing provider, auditors, valuation specialists, financial printer, software vendors) to ensure all necessary information is compiled to arrive at appropriate accounting conclusions and disclosures.
  • Perform monthly closing, maintenance of ledger accounts and cost accounting.
  • Book key closing journal entries and other reports/projects completed by the outsourcing provider to ensure proper GAAP accounting.
  • Support/perform accounting accruals including bonus accruals, other operating expense accruals and non-operating accruals.
  • Perform accounting analysis to assess trends in Hyperion Financial Management (HFM), identify variances, and recommend next steps.
  • Liaise with Senior Management to support analysis, budgeting and forecasting initiatives and cost centre reporting.
  • Respond to audit queries.
  • Perform Inter-company Accounting
  • Net Profit Calculation
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations
  • Enforce policies and procedures in own work and support the team to deliver to agreed standards and ensure SOX compliance.
  • Hilton is in the hospitality industry, and a hospitable service atmosphere must be projected at all times.
  • Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with other finance departments and corporate departments they support.
  • Collaborate with manager to establish specific goals and plans to prioritise, organise and accomplish project/department goals.
  • Attend staff meetings pertinent to work assignments.

Planning Activities 5%

Manage delivery against individual objectives and assigned projects and supports the delivery of team objectives

Supportive Functions

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the supervisor based upon the particular requirements of the company.

  • Support International Finance Team
  • Support US Finance Team
  • Support Glasgow Finance Team
  • Any and all other job assigned duties

What are we looking for?

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Proven ability to deal with large volumes of data in multiple currencies
  • Excellent financial reporting and analysis skills
  • Intermediate Advanced Excel skills
  • Knowledge of business mathematics (weighted averages, percentages)
  • Strong Accounting skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build trust and confidence in order to motivate and influence others
