Information Systems Engineering – Industrial Placement & Summer Internships
BAE Systems offer a range of 12-week summer internships and 12-month industrial placements which will provide you with an insight into working life in one of our UK businesses and the opportunity to further develop your skills. We provide on-the-job training within a structured framework and only offer these placements when there is real work to be completed.
About the role
As an Information Systems Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to work on a range of projects, developing your capabilities across many different disciplines.
Your will be working within Military Air & Information (MAI) which is the air sector of BAE Systems, responsible for the design and build of fixed wing military and training aircraft, as well as providing training, support and information services for the UK RAF and other customers worldwide.
You will be involved in providing high integrity, secure, innovative and interoperable information system products which are fundamental to improving the probability of winning military and non-military business in both home and export markets either directly as an integrated information systems product or as information systems components within MAI systems and platforms.
The ISE discipline is responsible for the management and development of the Capability to apply Systems Engineering approaches in order to conceive, realise and support directly customer-funded Information Systems that manage, exchange, manipulate and/or display information used in one or more of the customer's processes. ISE can also include the provision of an Information System in an information Managed Service context. It is managed through eight distinct sub-capabilities:-
- Architecting
- Experimentation, Visualisation and Demonstration
- Enterprise/Battlespace Integration
- High Integrity Information Systems Engineering
- COTS/MOTS Product Selection & Integration
- Networking & Storage Solutions
- Security Design and Accreditation
- Information Service Provision and Management
During your placement/ internship you would be involved in a number of areas related to the ISE discipline, primarily at either Warton Unit or the Christchurch site, to develop a broad understanding of air platforms, the engineering lifecycle and the role the discipline plays to underpin the design, development, test, maintenance and support of BAE Systems products.
Entry Requirements
To apply, you’ll need to be on course for achieving a 2:1 Bachelor's degree in a relevant subject for our undergraduate schemes.
Starting Salary
- Industrial Placement: £18,000 per annum
- Summer Internship: £16,800 (pro-rata) per annum
