About

This Scheme is designed for undergraduates who have completed their second year at university.

If you’re a highly numerate undergraduate with excellent technical and interpersonal skills, this is the ideal opportunity to get first-hand experience of international air traffic management research. It will also help you develop a well-rounded knowledge of Air Traffic Control activities.

Working with a range of bespoke tools and programmes, your 12 month placement within the Analytics department will give you a great head-start going into your final year at university, not to mention your future career.
As a self-motivated student, you’ll be encouraged to get as much out of the year as possible by developing mathematical and statistical analytical skills, using a range of IT and programming packages, through to report writing and presenting the results of your work to customers and colleagues.

You will receive on-the-job training for specific work areas, giving context to your tasks and allowing you to learn how analytical techniques are used in practice. Analytics staff have a range of technical backgrounds, from mathematics and statistics to computing and aerospace engineering, so there are always plenty of people for you to ask questions and learn from.

Principle Accountabilities



You will be given the opportunity to work on a variety of analysis projects, required by our internal or external customers. From the start, you’ll be expected to perform robust analysis, meet deadlines and take responsibility for conducting many departmental key tasks. Under supervision, you’ll be given the chance to manage your own projects and time, ensuring that you become a valuable member of Analytics.

Qualifications & Skills

As far as qualifications are concerned, we’re looking for students taking their sandwich placement year from university. Our structured industrial placements are open to those studying for a Bachelors or Masters degree in a numerate, science-based or analytical discipline.

In terms of your skills and strengths, we look for excellent interpersonal and IT skills, an analytical background, attention to detail, drive and commitment. Aside from that, all we ask is that you meet the general health standards as defined by NATS medical branch. You must also be eligible for NATS security clearance.
