Project Management Placement

About

Our projects team are responsible for implementing bespoke Air Traffic Control (ATC) systems, Airspace changes and new IT systems though the whole project lifecycle.

Our 12-month industrial placements are open to ambitious students on degree courses in relevant Project Management, business or engineering discipline such as computer science, engineering, aerospace, physics and mathematics.

Our placements are open to those taking a gap year after starting university or on a sandwich course. You must be studying for a BSc, BA, BEng or Masters HONS Degree in a relevant Project Management, engineering or physics discipline. Strong communication skills, a proactive approach, commitment and drive are important, plus you must be eligible for NATS security clearance.

Principle Accountabilities



  • To assist with the day to day running of projects as specified by Project Manager 

  • To gain an understanding of NATS Programme and Project Management processes.

  • To gain an understanding of the NATS business and key business drivers

  • Be capable of passing APMICP course by the end of the training scheme.

  • Trainees will manage their own time to achieve task and work package objectives.

Trainees will carry out one or more of the following:

  • Help maintain a High Level Process Rating for each of their allocated projects

  • Help with the production and agreement of Work Package Descriptions

  • Production of Monthly Project Management Report including interpretation of data

  • Maintain a Project Action Log

  • Maintain Project Risk Records and facilitation of Risk sessions

  • Maintain Project Cost Optimisation Register and facilitation of Cost Optimisation sessions

  • Production and/or maintenance of fixed Project Management Plan

  • Production and/or maintenance of Project Communications Plan 

  • Production and maintenance of Project Reporting calendar

  • Deputise for Project Manager at Project Meetings (e.g. Project Progress Meetings)

  • Undertake studies in response to internal or external requests and document the studies in formal reports.

  • Generate and evolve project plans necessary to implement tasks and work packages.

  • Implement NATS procedures to progress projects through the NATS project lifecycle. 

  • Application of the NATS Safety Management System on projects delivering new systems or modifying existing systems.

Qualifications

  • Working towards a 2:1 Honours Degree (Or above) in a relevant Project Management, business or engineering discipline.

  • Good interpersonal skills, flexible in approach and able to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Good numeracy skills are a key element to this role.

  • Proficient in the use of common office IT packages, particularly Microsoft Word, Project, Excel and PowerPoint.

Must be able to secure UK security clearance. Must be eligible to work full time in the UK
