Student Placement Programme

If you are looking to get great commercial exposure and 12 months’ practical experience that will help you secure a career opportunity when you complete your degree, we might be the business for you!

All of our 12-month Student Placements are based from our Birmingham offices and will involve real, practical work and often include specific project work that can add value to our business as well as show casing your talents. With a strong focus on analytical and problem-solving abilities – all our placements require these two key attributes as well as the ability to communicate with internal teams and other partner organisations.

Many of the students that join us often return to join the Graduate Programme or join us as a direct entrant once they complete their degree.

So what kind of experience can we offer you?

Yield Analyst - Commercial Team

Using strong analytical skills, problem solving and data analysis, this role focuses on ensuring the customer is offered the right ticket, on the right train to maximise our revenue and minimise overcrowding to our customers.

Digital Assistant – Marketing Team

As an organised, analytical and effective communicator you will already have a keen interest in digital marketing. The role will involve working with our digital agencies and ensuring our website content is maintained and effective SEO optimisation is realised, along with analysing our competitor’s propositions.

Resourcing – Production Team

With a strong analytical and statistical bias, you will be involved in the planning and structuring of our traincrew staffing operations – ensuring we have the right teams on the right trains in the right locations, at all times.

Timetabling – Production Team

You will be working as an integral part of our planning team, responsible for ensuring we achieve our timetable, liaising with other train operators and internal teams to ensure we have the right train configurations, in the right locations, at the right time.

Performance – Production Team

If you enjoy working with large amounts of data, interpreting information and then analysing performance, this might be the role for you. You will also be liaising with other train operators and Network Rail around our punctuality and service levels and ensuring we offer a reliable and punctual service to our customers.

What happens next?

You need to complete your online application and we will then send out a link to online assessments you need to complete. If you pass the online assessments we shall then get a little more information from you around your placement preferences and then invite selected candidates to meet us face to face in November and December.

The Student Placement Programme starts on Monday 2nd July 2018.
