Medical Affairs Student Placement

Joining our dedicated and talented team for 12 months at our Hoddesdon site as a placement student will help build a strong foundation for success in your future.

We currently have two exciting opportunities for a one year placement within our Medical Affairs Department in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire. This department is part of the company’s Human Health Division providing clinical, scientific and technical expertise both to the rest of the company and external stakeholders. Successful candidates will work either in our Research and Innovation or Oncology teams.

As part of the Medical Affairs team, you will work as a Medical Affairs Associate, where you will support the teams that work on MSD’s Medical Affairs programmes.

Throughout your twelve months here, you will be given the opportunity to gain a full insight into the role of a Medical Affairs Department within a global company.. As part of a professional and friendly team, you will have the opportunity to work with Medical Advisors, Medical Science Liaisons and Clinical Research colleagues across some ouf our key therapeutic areas, supporting the members of the Medical Affairs team whilst developing your knowledge and practical skills in the area of pharmaceutical clinical research. Experiences will include field visits with colleagues and training on the end to end processes, both internal and external, of managing clinical trials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting with medical information enquiries
  • Reviewing scientific materials
  • Working on assigned project(s) under supervision
  • Attending field visits with the Medical Science Liaisons, Medical Advisors and Research Project Managers
  • Supporting the study and medical team in their daily activities
  • Providing administrative support for Early Access Programmes
  • Audio-visual suite expert within Medical Affairs
  • Developing and maintaining internal media sites
  • Medical slide-set development
  • Resource planning for medical review
  • Generating aspects of the Global Medical Affairs dashboard
  • Supporting the Medical Information Database
  • Updating Code training materials

Essential Capabilities/Skills

  • Strong communication skills
  • Good organisation and administrative skills
  • Team player, learning from and helping others overcome obstacles
  • Confident with a willingness to get involved
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft packages (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail
  • Experience with and an ability to comprehend complex scientific literature

Education and Experience

  • Working towards a minimum of a 2:1 degree in Biomedical Sciences or related science degree
  • Entering your third or penultimate year of study, returning to your degree course at the end of the placement
