About E.ON

E.ON is one of the world’s largest power and gas companies. Across Europe, we supply energy that powers everything from streetlights to transport and helps millions of people to go about their daily lives. It’s incredibly complex work, driven by a simple vision. Everything we do is directed towards making life that little bit simpler for our customers.

Undergraduate Design Engineer Placement

Community Energy (CE) within E.ON delivers low carbon district heating solutions across the UK. As an undergraduate Design Engineer, you’ll gain invaluable exposure working with the team that’s designing and specifying E.ON’s heat district scheme – from concept to construction.

What you’ll do

This is a Year in Industry placement where you’ll get to put what you’ve been learning into practice. Heat transfer, fluid mechanics, process design, thermodynamics, stress analysis and mechanics are all topics you’ll have studied that are imbedded in our work. This includes:

  • Carrying out real-life design tasks for the underground heat network and mechanical teams
  • Owning your own 12-month business improvement project – which you’ll report on at the end of your placement
  • Engaging with stakeholders to ensure your project makes a real impact on our business.

This placement could well prepare you for a future with us. Shine and we may fast-track you to the last stage of assessment for one of our graduate schemes. Equally, with the chance to explore our business whilst you’re here, you never know what other career opportunities it could lead to.

What we’re looking for

  • You’re working towards a 2:1 engineering degree.
  • You work collaboratively and resolve problems.
  • You have plenty of drive, determination and resilience.
  • You’re highly competent in MS Project, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • You are a superb communicator and have excellent stakeholder management skills.
  • You’re willing to travel and learn at sites across the UK (a driving licence is needed).
