About E.ON

E.ON is one of the world’s largest power and gas companies. Across Europe, we supply energy that powers everything from streetlights to transport and helps millions of people to go about their daily lives. It’s incredibly complex work, driven by a simple vision. Everything we do is directed towards making life that little bit simpler for our customers.

Offshore Windfarm Operations Engineer Placement

E.ON has invested over £2.4 billion in renewables in the UK and operates almost 1GW of renewable capacity. It’s big business. Our newest 116-turbine, offshore windfarm is located 15km off the coast of Brighton and will be completed in early 2018. Based at the site operations in Newhaven harbour, you’ll help develop and roll-out engineering strategies that are designed to ensure its long-term integrity.

What you’ll do

This is a Year in Industry placement where you’ll take ownership of the engineering strategy for a major component or system, whether it’s a turbine structure, gearbox, generator or a high voltage transmission system. This includes:

  • Identifying cost-effective ways of assessing long-term inspection and maintenance requirements
  • Modelling and optimising methods of carrying out required work (taking all resources and variables into account such as personnel, crew transfer vessel selection, weather, fuel etc.)
  • Negotiating any contracts for outsourced activity
  • Reviewing and suggesting efficient use of the sites computerised maintenance management systems for the planning, scheduling, tracing and inspection of work.

This placement could well prepare you for a future with us. Shine and we may fast-track you to the last stage of assessment of our Engineering Graduate Programme. Equally, with the chance to explore our business whilst you’re here, you never know what other career opportunities it could lead to.

What we’re looking for

  • You’re working towards a 2:1 degree in an engineering discipline.
  • You’re eager to learn about new technologies and have a real interest in renewables.
  • You have excellent relationship-building skills.
  • You enjoy sourcing data, whilst knowing how to analyse and use it.
  • You’re able to identify and solve problems, as well as produce clear recommendations.
  • You possess a natural curiosity about how things work and take a hands-on, ‘fix it’ approach.
