The Strategic Capabilities Team reports into the Head of Strategy and is part of the Strategy, Value & Access department. The team’s mission is to develop and integrate organisational capabilities & competencies that enable the UK business priorities and drive MSD’s future success. This is a recently established team with a dynamic and inclusive approach to working.

This role will focus on supporting the development and implementation of key organizational capabilities across our commercial structure, with particular emphasis on; Strategic Brand Planning, Key Account Management, leadership and Learning & Development. Our aspiration is to create a future proof organization. Our programmes have a strong people & culture focus, reflecting our belief in the importance of people as a competitive differentiator. Through aligning our investment in key capabilities with our key business priorities, helping our colleagues take ownership of their own learning and enabling access to the wealth of available resources across different channels, we will work to achieve true market differentiation.

This provides a superb opportunity to learn about the dynamics of the pharmaceutical industry and the major competitor companies within.

Key Objectives

  • To successfully manage our internal learning development tool: Fuse
  • To gain experience both in learning and development and to improve your general business acumen skills
  • To network and develop professional relationships throughout the company at all levels.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage social learning tools and drive internal engagement
  • Collaborate across local and regional colleagues to develop relevant customer engagement solutions aligned to business needs
  • Support the planning and implementation of company inductions to onboard new MSD colleagues
  • As necessary organize and facilitate working sessions across the organisation
  • Using the AV Studio (Video and Voice Recording) to promote MSD activity both internally and externally.

  • Ability to communicate accurately both verbally and in writing
  • Good organiser and ability to run projects
  • Team player, learning from and helping others overcome obstacles
  • Confident with a willingness to get involved
  • Strong sense of urgency, takes initiative to do things without being asked
  • Has a can do attitude, anticipates problems and proposes solutions, approaches work challenges creatively with fresh ideas
  • A self-starter who can be relied upon to work autonomously without supervision.

Education and Experience

  • Achieved or working towards a minimum of a 2:1 degree preferably in a business related discipline
  • Minimum 320 UCAS points from 3 A-Level
  • Specific interest in corporate / organisational strategy
  • Specific interest in Human Resources and organisational learning

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to meet fellow students before commencing the placement and have a handover with the current student.
