Procurement Placement

Joining our dedicated and talented team for 12 months at our Hoddesdon site (Hertfordshire) as a placement student will help build a strong foundation for success in your future.

We would love you to join our Procurement team at MSD where you can gain experience within a diverse team all working together to deliver on the same promise: finding new ways to create a healthier future for our patients.

The Procurement team is responsible for providing initiatives and support to the whole of MSD UK and Ireland. Our small and ambitious team provides the business with insights to meet its objectives through ensuring the best quality services at the best price.

You will gain a “hands on” and full insight into the practices of a Procurement Department within a global company. Working in a professional and friendly environment, you will oversee some projects, which will provide you with a fantastic opportunity to interact with internal and external stakeholders, allowing you the opportunity to develop your general business skills as well as specific Procurement tools (skills which will help your career as well as when you buy your first car!).

Throughout your 12 months here, you will be given the opportunity to learn about the business as a whole. Experiences will include helping the current buying team and the opportunity to attend various business meetings, both on and off site – with the opportunity to work on projects that are of most interest to you.

  • To successfully manage small spend areas ensuring best value
  • To gain experience both in procurement processes and improve your general business skills

Key Responsibilities 

  • Manage small spend procurement activities within the UK budgets
  • Help current team analyse spend and identify opportunities to reduce costs

Key Capabilities/Skills

  • Good sense of humour!
  • Ability to communicate accurately both verbally and in writing
  • Team player who is keen to learn and willing to help others overcome obstacles
  • Has a “can do” attitude
  • Listens and adapts to improve
  • Organised and likes structure
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft packages (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint)

Education and Experience

  • Working towards a minimum of a 2:1 in any Business related degree
  • Entering your third or penultimate year of study, returning to your degree course at the end of the placement
