IT Business Analyst Placement

Throughout your twelve month placement at MSD, you will be provided with the opportunity to support, develop and improve our IT systems and processes across numerous MSD sites and depending on your specific location will get the chance to learn more about the Human or Animal Health business as a whole.

There are currently two student positions available within the IT business units at MSD. The first is located at our UK Headquarters in Hoddesdon, where the focus is primarily Human Health and the second opportunity is located at our Animal Health Site in Milton Keynes. However the role itself and key responsibilities will be the same as outlined in the section below.

Working in a professional and friendly environment, will provide you the opportunity to gain practical experience in an IT Business Analyst role and will help build a strong foundation for success in your future.

Key Responsibilities:

Implementation of new IT systems to support business requirements.

  • Development of new business systems to meet business requirements, project timescales and users expectations.
  • Provide technical expertise to implement and integrate new and existing systems and technologies.
  • Opportunity to manage and deliver your own projects with support from your mentor.

Maintenance and development of existing IT systems

  • Participate in change management processes working with key stakeholders to deliver continuous improvement.
  • Management of user accounts and security.
  • Development and delivery of training packages to business users

Maintain compliance to Merck Corporate and Regulatory guidelines for IT systems

  • Ensuring all necessary training is completed and documented successfully.
  • Application of the Merck specific System Development Life Cycle to systems.
  • Production of supporting documentation for the implementation of new systems.
  • Adherence to Merck’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) in everything you do.

Education and Skills:

  • Potential Candidates will be working towards a minimum of a 2:1 in a relevant IT discipline.
  • Candidates must be entering a third or penultimate year of study, returning to a degree course at the end of the placement.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, able to build relationships and trust at all levels and with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem solving and innovating skills.
  • Team player, learning from and helping others overcome obstacles.
  • Display excellent attention to detail and the ability to deliver to deadlines.
  • Be able to demonstrate a “can do” attitude and desire to continuously improve.
  • A self-starter who can be relied upon to work with minimal supervision.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Application Process:

  • Stage 1 – Online Application Form - Candidates will be required to fill out a short application form and upload their CV.
  • Stage 2 – Telephone Interview - Candidates will be carefully selected and invited to take part in a telephone interview. You will be given a minimum of one weeks’ notice prior to the telephone interview to prepare.
  • Stage 3 – Assessment Centre - Those candidates successful at Stage 2 will be invited to attend an Assessment Centre, located at our Milton Keynes site. Here you’ll spend a day taking part in various activities have the opportunity to network with current placement students and other MSD employees.
  • Stage 4 – Final Interview - If you perform well at the Assessment Centre you will then be invited to a final interview either at the Milton Keynes or Hoddesdon offices.

Successful applicants will be provided with a formal job offer shortly after the final interview. You will also receive a handover with the current placement student to ensure you are best prepared for the role.
