Development Quality Placement

Joining our dedicated and talented team for 12 months at our site in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire as a placement student will help build a strong foundation for success in your future.

We currently have a unique and exciting opportunity for a one year industrial placement within our Development Quality department. This department performs a key role in enabling and approving manufacture and release of new products for use in Clinical Studies across the world.

As part of the Quality team you will be dedicated to ensuring high quality practice throughout the development of new drug candidates from Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) through formulation to final packaged, labelled supplies for Clinical Studies. Quality has an in-depth involvement and work closely with multiple departments to perform the release of these supplies. Issues and non-compliances must also be investigated. We are a key contributor to Quality by Design and ensuring an appropriate risk posture in a highly regulated industry. As part of your placement, you will be allocated projects within the Quality scope of activities, ideally on a global level, working with colleagues in the USA and Switzerland. The scope and versatility of the Quality department will allow you to learn a wide range of transferrable skills vital to any future employment within the pharmaceutical industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow Standard of Procedures (SOPs) for assigned tasks
  • Assist with development or revision of SOPs
  • Work on assigned projects under supervision
  • Participate in audits or inspections of assigned systems to assess compliance with regulatory and MSD standards
  • Issue reports summarising deficiencies and notify management of inspection results
  • Review and approve Production and Analytical documentation accompanying the release of Clinical Supply Drug Product Lots to ensure conformance to quality
  • Communicate and resolve document audit comments with client areas
  • Collect information and perform investigations related to Deviations and Complaints

  • Excellent problem solving skills and the capacity to use your initiative An eye for detail
  • The willingness and the ability to work cross-functionally with a team-orientated approach
  • Strong inter-personal and communication skills e.g. face to face meetings, telephone, e-mail & teleconferences
  • Effective time management and the ability to work under pressure

Education and Experience

  • Working towards a minimum of a 2:1 degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences or a related discipline
  • Entering your third or penultimate year of study, returning to your degree course at the end of the placement
