Research Summer Analyst

Our highly ranked Equity Research team specialises by industry and shares insightful sector knowledge as well as valuation perspectives, with sales & trading and clients to help them identify value and growth stocks to invest wisely. This team digs deeper into everything that affects the world's financial markets and economies. We think of it both as an ideas factory and as the brain of the bank.

Work here and you'll learn to react swiftly to market movements and provide quick but thorough analysis. You'll also spend time thinking analytically and innovatively so you can report on economy-wide trends or generate powerful investment ideas.

You could be working in Equity, Credit or Economics and Market Strategy Research but whichever area you're based in, your work will empower our clients as well as our business

Eligibility Criteria

We look for highly motivated individuals who are keen to work in a fast-paced environment that is constantly evolving. Though technical skills are useful, Barclays provides training to all incoming undergraduates and hire from a variety of educational backgrounds. A successful undergraduate has a strong work ethic and is keen to learn and develop his/her skill set, allowing them to deliver the best product to our clients.

Roles and Responsibilities

As a Research undergraduate, your responsibilities will include:

  • Presenting and communicating research and your ideas
  • Collaboration with colleagues
  • React quickly to changes in the market
  • Report on economy-wide trends
  • Develop trading ideas

Day in the life

  • Monitoring and reporting on the market 25%
  • Networking with colleagues and clients 25%
  • Conference calls 15%
  • Developing trading ideas 35%

Debut Inside Knowledge

  • Online Applications – attention to detail matters and save a copy.
  • Practise, practise, practise the online test before you start.
  • Make sure you are prepared and allow enough time to complete un-distracted.
  • Assessment Centre – be punctual, positive and prepared with questions
  • Always do your research – delve deeper to differentiate yourself
  • Be prepared to demonstrate what motivates you about a career in Finance
  • Keep up to date with current affairs / market updates and news
  • Follow-up after meeting someone – leave a lasting impression
