Global Markets Internship

HSBC AND YOU

Our 10-week Summer Internship offers penultimate-year degree students experience of sales or trading within Markets, with a view to developing a successful international career in Global Markets. You will need to be forward-thinking, driven and perceptive, open to different ideas and cultures and enjoy being part of a team.

We also offer Off Cycle Internships for those that have graduated already starting from March 2018 for 10 weeks. If successful, you will have the opportunity to join our Graduate Programme from early August 2018.

Global Markets at HSBC provides sales and trading services to a range of clients worldwide, including the world’s central banks, government agencies, international corporations, financial institutions and hedge fund managers.

After an induction, which includes IT and technical training, you’ll complete a nine-week placement in either sales or trading. In sales, you’ll learn about developing and nurturing relationships with customers, communicating general market views and specific investment solutions. In trading, the focus will be on helping with orders for customers and keeping them updated with news and order flows, as well as communicating information to sales.

During your summer or off cycle internship, you’ll be part of our international team of specialists, gaining experience on a project or a number of transactions. This will help you to build your knowledge of sales and trading within Markets, as well as your analytical and communication skills.

You’ll be able to take part in our sustainability initiatives. Our volunteering programme, for example, could help you to develop new skills, while contributing to the communities in which we work.

We offer a market-competitive pay and benefits package according to your location.

Learning and development

Your placement will provide a combination of practical experience and classroom training. This will enable you to gain the right balance of technical knowledge and business skills.

You’ll be set objectives and receive feedback throughout the 10 weeks. During this time there are a number of people you can call on for support. Your manager will be able to give you guidance on your career options and you will be assigned a mentor who will help you to get the most out of the experience, as well as a buddy to share ideas with and call on for advice. There will be regular business and social events to attend so you can build a network of global contacts, which will prove invaluable. You can also take part in sustainability initiatives.

Career paths

You could secure a place on our Markets Global Graduate Programme on completion of your studies if pursuing a Summer Internship, or join our Graduate Programme the same year, if joining our Off Cycle Programme.
