Our Nuclear business is involved in truly unique work; where else could you experience major UK nuclear projects? For example, not only do we provide expertise and support for the Navy’s existing fleet of submarines, we’ll also be delivering design and build support for future generations. And we’re continually building on our expertise and expanding our operations when it comes to providing instrumentation systems throughout the civil nuclear industry.

The programme
Controls Engineering focuses on the measurement and control of wider engineering systems. The huge variety of different engineering systems used globally means a career in this field can give you almost limitless opportunities and challenges. Our internship programme is designed to give you both the insight and experience you need to take your first steps towards that career – not least because you’ll learn from some of the most respected and highly qualified professionals in the field. Working on live projects, over your 12 months you’ll work in our Civil Nuclear or Submarines divisions, problem-solving and designing integrated systems for optimal effectiveness. As you develop, the challenges will increase in complexity and responsibility, combining on-the-job learning with training modules and project work.
And because you’ll be doing it in a real-world business context, you’ll have every chance to make an impact. You might even be invited to join our graduate programme – a fantastic start to a long-term role with one of the world’s most prestigious global companies.
If you are a student member of an institute, experience gained on your internship can be used to credit some of your learning towards your graduate programme and chartership status, should you choose to join.
What you’ll need
You’ll need to be on track to achieve a 2:1 bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a discipline like Electronic, Electrical, Software or Computer/Control Systems Engineering, or Computer Science.
Just as importantly, you’ll have excellent communication skills and plenty of initiative. Inquisitive and resourceful, you’ll always be keen to explore new areas and find different ways to make your mark. You should also be flexible in terms of where you’re based.
Due to the nature of this work, we’re unable to employ anyone who doesn’t have the legal right to live and work in the UK. This role is subject to Full UK Security Clearance and if you have spent more than three months outside of the UK in the last five years (e.g. travelling, working, living), we might not be able to employ you.
