About Rolls-Royce

Our high-performance, integrated power solutions are at the cutting edge of technology. From powering huge commercial vessels to nuclear submarines, supersonic fighter jets to highly efficient passenger planes, or rail locomotives to luxury yachts, we go above and beyond to create better. And it’s all thanks to our people. Whether they work in engineering or finance, manufacturing or project management, our 50,000-strong team work together to deliver excellence in the air, on land and at sea – to customers in 150 nations around the world.

Manufacturing Engineering Summer Internship Programme

Designing world-leading power systems is one thing. Actually seeing those designs through to fruition is something else entirely. And that’s where our Manufacturing Engineering team comes in. Join them as a summer intern, and you’ll play a vital role in ensuring we can deliver on our promises, and achieve the most exacting standards. Life in this team is about continually developing processes, acquiring capabilities and exploiting technologies that will keep us at the forefront of global manufacturing. As a summer intern, you’ll gain an appreciation of how we transform ideas into physical products, and billion-pound order books into profitable reality.

The programme

On our Manufacturing Engineering Summer Internship Programme, you’ll be located at one of our manufacturing facilities across the UK. Whether you’re working for us in Civil or Defence Aerospace, Nuclear, Marine or Power Systems, you can look forward to undertaking a substantial project. You’ll be working in capability acquisition, product introduction or continuous improvement, so you’ll gain a deep insight into how we work in one area of the manufacturing lifecycle. Along the way, you’ll learn from true experts and be taught invaluable skills. And if you perform well, you could be invited to join our graduate programme – a fantastic start to a career with one of the world’s most prestigious global companies.

If you are a student member of an institute, experience gained on your internship can be used to credit some of your learning towards your graduate programme and chartership status, should you choose to join.

What you’ll do

The project you undertake will vary depending on business need and where you’re based. You could be part of a team improving a manufacturing process, or be involved in developing technology to help introduce a new product into manufacture. Some of our summer interns will get the chance to work in central teams where they will help to transform the way we undertake manufacturing engineering across all of our facilities. The opportunity to make an impact, and a good impression, is huge.

What you’ll need

We’re looking for people who’ll be happy to share their ideas about how we can do things even better, so we’ll want to see great communication skills developed through well-rounded life experience – academically, socially and in any previous work situations. Technical abilities are a must, so you’ll need to be on track to achieve at least a 2:1 bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Maths or a relevant Physical Science, or equivalent qualification. Flexibility is important too, as you could be based at any of our sites.

What you’ll get

  • £17.850 pa (pro rata)
  • Learn from experts
  • The chance to join our graduate programme if you perform well
  • Leisure facilities, clubs, societies and social activities
