Barnett Waddingham is the UK’s largest independent provider of consultancy, actuarial and administration services, spread across 7 offices throughout the UK. We are looking for ambitious university students looking for a varied summer internship that have a passion for analytics and client support.
No 2 days are ever the same, as a firm employing over 850 people across 7 offices in the UK we work with a wide range of clients, large and small, in both the private and public sectors, including over 15% of FTSE350 firms.
Actuarial Consultant

Actuaries come from different academic backgrounds but share a love of maths even if they haven’t done a maths degree. In an increasingly complex financial world where greater emphasis is being placed on risk management the actuarial qualification is a gateway to many different opportunities and careers. The qualifications are recognised globally and the skills you acquire in attaining them will enable you to work anywhere in the world.
A very important part of an actuary’s role is communication, whether this is to convey a technical issue in simple terms to meet the needs of the audience or at senior management level dealing with high-level strategic decisions.
We run an eight week paid summer internship programme that offers first class training and work experience enabling you to gain an excellent understanding of the role an actuary undertakes within the firm, how our business operates and the opportunity to learn from our Partners and dedicated mentors.

You will be given real responsibility to contribute to client work and in addition you will get the opportunity to spend time in the different areas of the business. You will be assigned a personal mentor and supervisor who will help and support you throughout the programme to ensure that you gain the best experience possible. Many students who have completed our summer internship have gone on to develop their career with us after university as part of our Actuarial graduate programme.
Our current vacancies require you to be on track for a minimum of a 2:1 degree, A at A-Level maths and 300 UCAS points. We require dedicated individuals with a strong academic background and who are dynamic, proactive and have excellent communication skills.
We have opportunities in all of our offices; Amersham, Cheltenham, Bromsgrove, Leeds, Liverpool, Glasgow and London. Successful candidates will be selected to participate in a telephone interview and then an assessment day in one of our offices.
