Why Get Into Teaching?

The Department for Education is responsible for education and children’s services in England. They work to achieve a highly educated society in which opportunity is equal for children and young people, no matter what their background or family circumstances.

Around 35,000 trainee teachers need to be recruited every year. To help with this, the Department for Education runs the ‘Get into Teaching’ campaign to attract students and career changers into the profession by offering a variety of great opportunities to those interested in a career in teaching.

The campaign is delivered through a range of channels including social media, advertising, PR, and face-to-face event activity. Students are targeted on campus raising awareness of teaching as a career choice. They are encouraged to sign up to the Get into Teaching campaign to find out more about teaching and the training options. Events are held on campus where students can talk to newly qualified teachers, training providers, and advisers about all aspects of the profession.

The rewards of teaching:

  • Change a young person’s life for the better – make the frightened, confident. The uninterested, ambitious. And the gifted... brilliant.
  • Get young people inspired by the subject you love.
  • Go home each day knowing you’ve made a difference. See young people progress day-to-day thanks to you.
  • The teaching profession is a great way to make your degree, skills and knowledge really count.
  • Teachers start on a salary of between £22k and £28k.
