Infrastructure Field Engineer – Student Placement

The Field Engineering team is a pan European group of Engineers responsible for the day to day support and maintenance of the IT infrastructure required for Rental Station and HQ-based users to consume and operate the standardised IT Services. The majority of tasks that require hands on work, or site attendance by an Avis Budget EMEA employee will be the responsibility of the Field Engineering group either delivered directly, or in conjunction with a supplier or partner

Under the identity of One IT, Avis Budget EMEA has standardised its IT infrastructure environment such that over 80% of employees work from a Thin Client device and all IT services have been standardised and are delivered from a centralised data centre based in the UK. The IT organisation is structured in a Shared Services model based in the UK and Hungary to deliver and manage these services in a highly controlled and process-driven manner achieving both SOX and PCI compliance.

Members of the Field Engineering group may be located in a specific country, however it is the responsibility of the group as a whole to support the overall Avis Budget EMEA network of locations, therefore depending on requirements, coverage or specific needs, Field Engineers may routinely operate across multiple countries.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Provide hands-on hardware support for end-user devices including but not limited to Thin-client devices, Laptops, Printers, Handheld devices (such as those used by the Avis-Budget Pearl Check-In Application) and mobile telephones
  • Investigate, diagnose and resolve where possible reported hardware faults. Evaluate and recommend next steps where a fault cannot be resolved on-site and coordinate these with central Service Desk function
  • Following One IT processes and standards, work with Country-based facilities organisation to coordinate and support the IT requirements for the opening, relocation or closing of Avis-Budget rental-station (and where appropriate, HQ) locations including cabling, telephony, networking and other IT requirements as appropriate and agreed.
  • Assist central Service Desk function in the identification and resolution of user-reported issues where a remote diagnosis is unable to be successfully achieved
  • Maintain and manage inventory of spare devices for allocation in resolution of an incident or to provision a new user. Collect and maintain unused or returned devices.

We are looking for you to have proven experience of managing and troubleshooting end-user IT hardware, and ideally hands-on experience of network patching and routine configuration of Local Area networking devices.
