System Test Placement

This exciting opportunity based in the System Test Department at ASM Assembly Systems Weymouth, is available on a 13 month work placement for undergraduate students seeking sandwich placements as part of their studies or final years/graduates. The anticipated start date for this placement would be July 2017.

The purpose of this role is to perform testing on any ASM Assembly Systems product, including those supplied through third parties.

Main Duties

  • Involving a reasonable level of technical challenge the jobholder will need to undertake testing of complete machines / modules and also, when experienced enough; specialised ‘options’ such as Remote Product Changeover (RPC) or GEM.
  • To perform System Testing according to the System Test Proposal and System Test Database procedure, ensuring all measurements are taken and appropriate specifications are completed.
  • To examine/ analyse fault reports and other associated information/ documentation.
  • To set-up printing machine or specific product module, to exactly replicate/ mimic the conditions when the fault was identified.
  • To undertake various tests to verify/confirm that a specific fault has been rectified.
  • Where appropriate introduce, develop, and document new test specifications.
  • To complete, following completion of testing, appropriate test specification documentation and feed results back to relevant people.
  • Where practicable provide alternative solutions to rectify identified faults, should the fault re-occur during the testing process.
  • To liaise with Customer Support Engineers, other DEK engineering functions and customers to obtain, amongst other information, further technical details relating to the specific fault under test.
  • To record any additional defects detected during the general testing process. Recommend fixes to defects or liaise with relevant engineering function.
  • To maintain a clean and safe working environment.

Person Specification

  • Qualified or currently studying for a degree in an Engineering field, with a view to progressing to a System Test role.
  • Able to describe, both written and orally, systems, machines, and their operation or ability to learn.
  • Able to communicate effectively face to face and in writing with people at all levels in an organisation.
  • A strong sense of order, efficiency, and completeness, and able to create systems to achieve this.
  • Able to apply a logical and systematic approach when solving relatively complex problems.
  • Approachable and responsive to new ideas.
  • Able to organise own time and workload to deliver against tasks set by others, with a medium to short term horizon.
