Technical Undergraduate Placement

The Technical team here at Arla encompasses both Head Office and site functions, working closely together to support not only the wider business but also our customers and consumers to ensure that all of our products meet the legal , food safety and quality standards required and expected from a Global Business such as ours. We are a business that is constantly striving to offer our customers and consumers the best products in the market within the own label and branded sectors in which we operate. We work on the principle of delivering continuous improvement in everything that we do in order to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations.

The Head Office technical function helps to deliver the Quality Strategy for the Arla UK business with a focus on customer requirements and compliance. Taking pride and passion in everything that we do, the function is made of up of Quality Managers, Technical Specialists and Microbiologists. Acting as the link between our customers and the wider business, through close collaboration with production sites, commercial, marketing and NPD functions we ensure Arla meets customer expectations by delivering a consistently best in class products and services.

We are looking for an undergraduate to join this high performing function for a 12 month placement to be based at our Head Office in Leeds commencing in the summer of 2017. Within this role you can expect to be challenged and gain broad experience within the Technical department. There will be the opportunity to support the UK customer technical team in a wide range of activities as well as taking the lead on specific projects. Experience will be gained in customer contact as well as from working closely with production sites and other functions including NPD, Commercial, Marketing etc. The role will have high exposure across the business and will give a good understanding of technical management as well as wider company processes.

Projects/responsibilities could include:

1. Management of Arla’s benchmarking programme
2. Direct contact with customers
3. Preparation of key quality documentation
4. Supporting the team with customer meetings/reviews
5. Tracking/Reporting KPI’s
6. Quality system maintenance of information

We are looking for a candidate who is preferably completing an undergraduate degree within Food Science/Nutrition or related (Biology, Chemistry or similar). With a commercial and customer focussed mind-set you will be interested in learning all about what is involved in working within a fast moving environment such as ours. To be successful in this role you will have effective communication skills along with the ability to research, interpret data and come up with solutions. You will be able to demonstrate a drive for improving product quality and standards by managing key business processes.
