Summer Internship
As an Ark Summer Intern you will have a unique insight into what it is like to work in one of our schools. During the week you will be fully immersed in school life, undertaking a mixture of class observation and team teaching. Throughout the internship you will be working with current and former participants of Ark Teacher Training, enabling you to see first-hand how our programme gives you the best start to a career in teaching.
Key Activities
Observations
- Observe a variety of classes in the school, including lessons delivered by current Ark Teacher Trainees
- Shadow an individual student for a day
Teaching
- Take part in our team-teaching model, working with an experienced teacher to deliver lessons or parts of lessons to students
- Support individual students with their work during lessons
Enrichment
- Take part in the school’s enrichment day on the 14th July, leading activities in your chosen enrichment topic
- Work with sixth form pupils to discuss higher education opportunities, sharing your experience of university to raise their aspirations
Other
- Support the delivery of the pastor programme during tutor time
- Meet with current participants of the programme to gain first-hand insight into Ark Teacher Training
Person Specification
Qualification Criteria
- Right to work in UK
- Maths and English GCSE or equivalent at grade C or above
- Penultimate year student at a UK university, working to a 2:1 standard at bachelor’s degree level
Knowledge, Experience and Skills
- Strong numeracy and literacy skills
- Strong administrative, organisational and computer skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with children and adults
Personal Characteristics
- Interest in teaching and the education sector
- Genuine passion and a belief in the potential of every pupil
- Commitment to Ark’s mission of providing an excellent education to every student, regardless of background
- Helpful, positive, patient and caring nature
- Able to take direction but also make good judgments and take initiative when required
Other desirable skills and knowledge
- Experience in coaching of a sport/musical instrument/extra-curricular activity
Other
- Commitment to equality of opportunity and the safeguarding and welfare of all pupils
