Social Care Project Lead

We are looking for Social Care Project Lead (Assistant Programme Leader) to work in London, Surrey, Buckinghamshire & Berkshire, West Midlands, Manchester, Lancashire or Yorkshire.

Working between several teams, the Assistant Programme Leader is responsible for the pastoral care and behaviour management of individual young people in a single wave made up of up to 84 young people on the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme.

This role is suitable for individuals with experience of working with young people, knowledge of support requirements for young people with additional needs, and specialists in managing challenging behaviours.

Main Responsibilities:

Pastoral Care and Support

  • Work intensively with individual young people with a support requirement as required - this could refer to behavioural, physical or emotional support
  • Provide floating support to up to seven teams of young people as required by the Programme Leader
  • Support each of the Senior Mentors in providing pastoral support to their teams
  • Work residentially during the NCS Personal Challenge and Team Challenge parts of the programme and provide team cover to Senior Mentors when required

Managing Challenge Behaviour

  • Support the Programme Leader in management of the discipline system where required
  • Work collaboratively to effectively manage any challenging behaviour
  • Ensure the NCS code of conduct is upheld throughout the programme

Candidates must demonstrate the following skills and characteristics:

Essential:

  • Extensive experience of working with a wide range of young people (ideally aged 15-17)
  • Extensive experience of working with young people who may exhibit challenging behaviours
  • Experience of working collaboratively with colleagues
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced and demanding environment
  • Willingness to develop project management and decision making skills
  • Ability to be adaptable, proactive and able to think on your feet.
  • The ability to understand and follow safeguarding and Health and Safety guidelines - alongside other organisational policies and procedures

Beneficial:

  • Experience of working with young people in a residential environment
  • Experience of managing or motivating groups of people in stressful environments (in a paid or voluntary capacity)
