At Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains we are responsible for the simulation, design, manufacture, assembly, testing and racing of the World Championship winning Formula 1 Hybrid Power Units used by the Mercedes AMG PETRONAS Formula 1 team. Our state of the art Hybrid Power Unit powered the Silver Arrows to win the Formula 1 World Constructors Championships in 2014, 2015 and 2016. We are also proud to supply power units to the Sahara Force India, Williams Martini Racing and Manor F1 teams. In addition to Formula 1, we also work on innovative and pioneering engineering projects for Mercedes road cars.

Finance Placement Students

The Finance function is responsible for providing accurate and timely management information and financial reports to our business partners both internally and externally. We deliver transparency, control and analysis to aid the decision making process. We have four different roles within the finance team that we are recruiting for.

What development can you expect?

Finance: Controlling (FP&A) – Engineering

Working closely with Programme Management to provide a weekly cost update on the Engineering changes that are required.

  • Work across different functional areas and develop your costing skills by reviewing any product changes and retrieving the relevant information.
  • Provide transparency of actual to budget on new product changes, performing detailed variance analysis.
  • Assisting in the forecasting of future Bill of Materials costs on new products.
  • Develop your communication skills by reviewing costs vs. key performance indicators which will be reviewed by senior stakeholders.

Finance: Controlling (FP&A) – Operations

  • You will gain valuable experience in the delivery and reporting of operational costs to key business stakeholders.
  • Maintaining schedules for key cost types within operations.
  • Preparation of the variance analysis reports for the operations business partners and providing appropriate detail where necessary.
  • Assist in the preparation of month end accruals, prepayments and provisions.

Finance: Controlling (FP&A) – Projects & Investment

  • You will gain valuable experience in the delivery and reporting of project costs to key business stakeholders within Automotive Engineering.
  • Provide transparency of actual to budget on each project including associated commentary.
  • Assist in the preparation of month end accruals, prepayments and provisions as well as overhead recoveries to the different projects.
  • Support the capital investment controller in providing adequate transparency and control, and business partner the functional areas with their requests.

Finance: Accounting

  • Daily cash flow preparation, including requesting necessary funds.
  • Production and audit of weekly payment runs and expense payments.
  • Preparation of weekly and monthly KPIs, liquidity management, ratio analysis and accruals and prepayments.
  • Month End Balance Sheet reconciliations, creditor/debtor analysis and maintenance.

What are we looking for?

  • Curious, tenacious and driven individuals who thrive in a face paced environment.
  • Currently studying and on track for a 2:1, or above, in an Accounting & Finance, Economics, Maths, Physics or other numerate degree.
  • A strong academic background in relevant A Level disciplines, for example maths or sciences, (or equivalent qualifications).
  • Excellent communicator, not afraid to take responsibility and deliver to tight timelines.
  • Team player and be adaptable to meet business demands.
  • People who are willing to go the extra mile to help the team succeed.
