About McDonald's Restaurants Ltd

McDonald’s is the biggest family restaurant business in the world, serving more than three million customers a day in the UK alone. If you’re up for a challenge and fancy the opportunity of working for a global, dynamic and progressive brand, then McDonald’s is the place to be.

Training and development has been at the heart of the business throughout the 42 years in the UK, investing over £40million in development programmes for our employees each year. We have a proven track record of career progression, with the entire UK Operations executive team starting their careers in restaurants.

If you’ve got the drive and ambition, there’s no limit to how far you can go.

Why choose us?

Our one year placement offers you a unique business experience where you could be working in a busy 24/7 restaurant with plenty of responsibility. It is an opportunity for personal development and a chance to learn first-hand from a specialist team throughout your year in the industry.

Many recruiters warn that graduates who have had no previous work experience at all are less likely to be successful during the selection process. However, our placements are a great way to deepen your understanding of our business and boost your career prospects, with McDonald’s or elsewhere. We provide an opportunity to develop transferable skills that will be essential in your future career - teamwork, leadership, communication, problem solving, organisational skills and many more.

A placement year with McDonald’s will give you an edge in the graduate job market and a great foundation for your future career.

Restaurant Industrial Placement

Our Restaurant Industrial Placement Scheme consists of four stages and mirrors the Trainee Manager programme that we offer to graduates. The timings given are a general guide and will vary from person to person, dependant on your own pace of learning.

  • Stage one: You will start by undertaking an intensive training period to learn all the basics, including working in the kitchen, front counter, dining area and Drive-thru
  • Stage two: You will be working closely with a qualified Crew Trainer, during our Crew Trainer Development Programme
  • Stage three: Once you have successfully completed the Crew Trainer role, the Shift Management Development programme commences immediately
  • Stage four: By this stage you will have the skills and knowledge to co-ordinate People, Product and Equipment to achieve a smooth, consistent and profitable business; delivering outstanding Quality, Service and Cleanliness to each customer every time.

The Restaurant Industrial Placement Scheme is open to undergraduates with a positive can-do attitude who are looking to spend a year in the industry.

We are looking for students who have a passion for working in a customer facing environment and inspiring a team to achieve great results. You’ll be required to learn a lot and apply what you have learnt, and to always lead by example. It’s a challenging and diverse role, so being self-motivated and open to change really helps. As this role is working for one of the most successful global brands, you’ll also be required to adhere to all our policies and procedures and to focus on providing a great experience for your customers.

In return, you’ll embark on a placement year with a company ranked 8th in the 2016 Sunday Times Best Big Companies list, where you will develop and acquire real skills in a real business environment, as well as meet some great people along the way.
