Global Research Internship

What to expect

We’re looking for the future leaders of Global Research — and this starts with our 10-week internship. You will need to be forward-thinking, driven and perceptive, open to different ideas and cultures and enjoy being part of a team.

At the beginning of your internship, you’ll have a detailed induction, after which you’ll complete a nine-week placement where you’ll learn about our macro, sector and company-scaled research and our strength in emerging markets and climate change. You’ll be learning from specialised research analysts and economists, gaining a detailed insight into HSBC’s strengths in the financial services industry.

You’ll be able to take part in our sustainability initiatives. Our volunteering programme, for example, could help you to develop new skills, while contributing to the communities in which we work.

We offer a market-competitive pay and benefits package according to your location.

Learning and development

You’ll gain hands-on experience, which will build your technical knowledge of investment banking and the role of Global Research. You’ll also be developing your behavioural, analytical, interpersonal and presentation skills. You’ll also be set measurable objectives and receive structured feedback throughout the 10 weeks.

An internship at HSBC offers you the chance to call on a variety of people for support. Your manager will be able to give you guidance on your career options. You’ll be assigned a mentor who will help you to get the most out of the experience, and a buddy to share ideas with and go to for advice.

There will be regular business and social events to attend so you can build a network of global contacts, which will prove invaluable to you in the future. You can also take part in sustainability initiatives, which may help you to become a future leader of HSBC, while adding value to the communities in which we work.

Career paths

You could secure a place on our Global Research Global Graduate Programme on completion of your studies, the next stage on the journey to a successful international career in investment banking.

Explorers wanted

We are looking for Explorers; people who can search for international opportunities and enable us to develop products and services for governments, corporates and institutions. We assess all applicants against our values and our global graduate capability framework. Information on our recruitment and selection process can be found on our hints and tips page.
