CMS Academy Vacation Scheme
The CMS Academy is our next generation vacation scheme. The combination of one-week of innovative leadership development training and a two-week internship, it offers a unique launch pad for your career in law. You will gain real experience in a commercial environment and the skills you need to succeed as a trainee at our modern law firm.
The CMS Academy represents the pinnacle of personal and professional development – not to mention one of the largest investments of any law firm into nurturing a new generation of talent. You will meet with clients, network with lawyers at every level of the business, work on projects and debate with thought leaders in the legal and industry sectors. The CMS Academy is designed to be one of the most dynamic and challenging experiences of your life. If all goes well, we will offer you a training contract, which begins with a comprehensive induction at IMD in Switzerland, Europe’s leading business school.
The CMS Academy is the fastest way to a training contract at CMS.
Leadership development
Hosted at our UK headquarters in London, the first week of the CMS Academy will feature a range of innovative activities and events that will prepare you for a career in business law.
These include an advanced simulation that will challenge your commercial judgment, talks from thought leaders on artificial intelligence and predicted industry trends, networking with FTSE 100 clients and CMS lawyers at every level, pro bono work for recognised charities and exposure to a range of business sectors.
Internship
The second and third weeks of the CMS Academy will take place at a UK office of your choice and you will experience the day-to-day reality of one of the world’s elite law firms.
Working on real projects in a commercial environment, you will interact with clients, liaise with our international offices in South America, Asia and Europe, and experience just how empowering life at CMS can be.
You will be allocated a dedicated supervisor and a buddy; people you can ask questions, work with and seek advice from.
CMS Academy Open Day
Before embarking on the CMS Academy, you will be welcomed to our London office in April to hear more about what the programme will hold. You will meet the rest of the programme participants, hear more about CMS, tour our office and meet your buddy. If you are based outside of the UK, you will be able to join us remotely.

To join the CMS Academy, you must be: a law student in your penultimate year or a non-law student in your final year in England or Wales; a law student in your penultimate year in Scotland; or a final year student studying outside the UK. Students who participate in our New York Programmes, International Student Interview Programme (ISIP) or Overseas-Trained LL.M. Interview Programme, hosted by the NYU School of Law and the Columbia Law School respectively, are also eligible for the CMS Academy.
