About RBS

A programme with us is about more than just the chance to learn. It’s about making a difference. It’s about applying your talent, and turning your ideas into actions. That’s why we’ll support you, and give you every opportunity to make your mark. If you have talent, energy, and the commitment to help shape our business, a career with us is a challenge that will inspire and motivate you.

We want you to make a real contribution to RBS. You can look forward to early responsibility, exposure across different business areas, exceptional training, and the chance to develop skills that will shape the rest of your career. And then there are your colleagues, buddies and managers, who’ll encourage you to share your opinions and ideas, helping you reach your full potential.

Risk Internship

If you have a natural curiosity with strong numerical and analytical skills, our Risk internship could be the perfect match for your talents. All you need is to be in the penultimate year of your degree, and we’ll give you the support you need to shape your future career.

Managing our risk is absolutely vital to RBS’s stability. Today it underpins our reputation, performance and future success more than ever before. An internship in our Risk function is a chance to gain valuable experience of our business-critical functions, and develop important professional skills.

What you can expect

You’ll have a unique opportunity to develop your knowledge of multiple risk disciplines such as Operational Risk, Enterprise Wide Risk Management, Market Risk, Capital Risk and Risk Infrastructure.

During the internship you’ll spend ten weeks in one of our business areas gaining a real insight into how they operate and fit into the wider Risk community. You’ll also have plenty of opportunities to network, gaining exposure to different areas of Risk so you have an understanding of where you might spend time if you join our graduate programme.

Who we’re looking for

To succeed in Risk you’ll need to be curious and independent minded. You should be the type of person who looks at the bigger picture and thinks long term, while embracing change. You’ll be passionate about seeking and understanding the information which allows you to make sound decisions, and provide well reasoned recommendations to our businesses.

The decisions our colleagues make might have a wider effect on the economy, on our brand, and on our customers. It’s Risk’s role to manage this. To do that, we’re looking for people with strong numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to manage stakeholders and communicate effectively.

The Risk function is very diverse, and we’re happy to consider applicants studying any degree subject. Many risk roles have a strong quantitative or analytical component, and study fields such as Finance, Mathematics and Economics are likely to give you valuable transferrable skills.
