I thoroughly enjoyed my internship the internship at DLA Piper for a number of reasons. Due to Covid-19, the placement was moved from being 3 weeks in office to being 1 week virtually. Despite this, the Graduate Recruitment and Management Team put together a brilliant programme that was engaging and meant that I looked forward to each day. This is because they filled the week with a variety of activities from talks from various members of the company with interns from all offices, to group work, to sessions with the specific office we applied to. There was never a full moment as there was always something new to learn or do.
The internship was executed very well and was quite enjoyable. I received a breadth of information and talks from different areas of the firm. Although I lament the in-person scheme that should have been, the virtual experience was largely seamless and informative. The highlight of the scheme, at least in terms of talks, was the closing address by [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] (Joint Managing Director, UK and Europe). [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] candour is unrivalled and her talk was inspirational.
The mixture of informative talks, partner presentations, Q&A sessions, office talks, social activities such as a quiz etc all allowed for a well balanced internship where I was able to learn a lot about the firm but also enjoy the process. Being able to (virtually) meet the fellow interns also made the internship enjoyable as we were able to socialise with other interns from the same office and also all of the other offices too.
It was unfortunate that the internship could not take place in the usual format this year, but the firm managed to provide an insightful, challenging, and fun experience in spite of this. I still had the opportunity to network with both my peers and various people from within the firm. I was able to get a good feel for the firm through the excellent talks arranged throughout the week. I enjoyed the activities, particularly the group pitch presentation.
I found the virtual internship highly enjoyable and engaging. The firm is really down to earth in its approach to even formal experiences such as the internship. The recruitment team were very welcoming and made everything as relaxed as possible and were extremely understanding when any issues came up either with scheduling for the assessments or technological malfunctions. The internship was stressful at times; however, as there were assessed components which were time-constrained. Nonetheless, the team and the assessors made things as comfortable as possible for us and were genuinely fun to interact with.
I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience! Despite the internship being virtual instead of in person, the graduate recruitment team managed to deliver an amazing week! We were made to feel comfortable and welcome from the very first morning and i almost miss our daily zoom calls! We had a combination of regional specific sessions, quizzes and insight talks hosted by a wide range of senior management. Everyone at the firm was very approachable and friendly and could not recommend the firm enough. The culture of the firm was very apparent through graduate recruitment and it was really nice to see.
I thoroughly enjoyed the week! The talks that were given were very interesting, the people I met and spoke to were lovely, and you could tell the graduate recruitment team had really tried to make it as similar as possible to the non-Covid internship. I only have it 8 stars rather than 10 because it was virtual and I obviously would have enjoyed it more if we were able to all meet in person and have that first week in London together.
I thoroughly enjoyed my virtual experience at DLA Piper. Obviously it was a shame that we could not complete the three week scheme as originally planned. However, the graduate recruitment team did a fantastic job of making the most of a bad situation. Completing the scheme during the pandemic provided a good opportunity to learn about the firm's real culture. The effort that had gone into the scheme's planning indicated that DLA Piper truly values it current and future staff members. Everyone who spoke to us seemed genuinely kind and friendly. This was impressive given that all these conversations occurred over Zoom!
I really enjoyed the virtual internship. I felt like there was a good balance between informative content and interactive work. We were able to interact with people from all levels of the organisation which was very useful to get a good picture of what working at DLA Piper would be like as a trainee. The graduate recruitment team/ trainees/ partners were all extremely welcoming and helped make the experience less intimidating and more enjoyable as a whole.
Despite the internship being online this year, I found it very enjoyable! The graduate recruitment team thoroughly planned our days, so we had a good balance between hearing talks from different people in the firm and completing group work. There were opportunities for networking and we were able to interact with other interns frequently.
I thoroughly enjoyed the whole week. We were lucky enough to listen to a range of speakers from across the firm, gained an insight into different practice areas and learned more about the experience of being a trainee. We also had organised drop in sessions and regular Q&As across the week.
The 3 week summer internship was moved to a 1 week online virtual scheme. The Graduate Recruitment team worked really hard to organise a well structured, interesting and informative scheme, which involved many lawyers in the firm and covered a broad range of topics. All the vacation scheme students were treated like a big family together on the scheme.
With all the uncertainties around the COVID-19, the Graduate Recruitment Team did an amazing job designing the virtual internship and it exceeded my expectations in so many levels. It was a great opportunity to get to know more about DLA Piper and to extend my network and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in pursuing a career as a Solicitor. In the worst case scenario, you will learn something and have a lot of fun.
Despite initial disappointment that we would be unable to complete the vacation scheme in the offices across 3 weeks due to the current crisis, I was surprised at how well the virtual experience measured up and ended up thoroughly enjoying the virtual experience. The graduate recruitment team worked extremely hard and it definitely showed with the week ultimately a resounding success.
Interesting, welcoming and down to earth people. I appreciated the amount of time that senior executives committed to speak to trainees (including responding to additional emails). The opportunity to hear from so many different people at the firm allowed us to really 'plunge' into DLA Piper's culture and gauge whether this is the kind of environment that we see ourselves fitting in.
