I worked in one of a few business roles based in the Hursley Software Labs. Most business placements are based in Portsmouth or London. It was a great experience with a lot of opportunities to get involved outside of the daily job whether it is education workshops or taking part in the company's corporate social responsibility activities such as halping out at schools or visiting universities.
I really enjoyed my time on this internship. It was very different from what I imagine a standard technology internship to be. We were divided into groups of 4 interns - 3 technical and 1 business intern, and each team was given a project to work on throughout the summer. I found my project very interesting, and as well as the programming aspect, we also had to give presentations about our project, design advertising materials for it, and give demonstrations.
I really enjoyed the project we were given to work on, and also living and working with all the other interns. Although it was a really challenging internship and I had to work really hard, it was for a project which I enjoyed and believed in which made it worthwhile!
My placement challenged me through out the 14 months I was an employee. I think that the experience was invaluable for preparing me for a graduate position and making me a better candidate in future job applications. My work was interesting and I had a high level of responsibility from the start.
