The internship was amazing. Not only we were provided with training courses at the beginning of the internship, that helped us get around our first weeks on the desk. After that, I was given a project to work on during the full duration of the internship, giving me the opportunity to really delve into my work subject. I really liked this way of doing it, as my work really helped the team and was used by the team.
I enjoyed my placement working for Fidelity as I felt regardless of the work I was doing that I was treated like a full time employee rather then a student that would only be there a year. I was given a good amount of responsibility and felt welcomed from the moment I joined.
Like working at any large organisation, there were times where I was extremely busy and other times where I did not feel I had that much work to do, which I found frustrating. I enjoy the culture at Fidelity, there is a laid-back attitude at my office (kingswood) and I am very much able to manage my own time and resources. I do not feel like I am being watched or that there is any significant pressure in regards to my work.
I had a great start working as a technology intern. As coming from a Technology background, I never got a chance to learn about Finance and Investment markets and how thing works. And by working at Fidelity, I am finally got a head start in that topic and recently passed an exam based on it.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Fidelity. Everyone in the company is very approachable and will seek to accommodate you wherever possible. You have a good support network to rely on if required too. The only downside I found with the Operational Management placement was that you were required to work in the call centre for six months. Despite being very beneficial, was a long period of time considering you are only with the company for 12 months.
The week provided a good in depth view into the ethos of Fidelity and the recruitment process. The workshops involved were enjoyable and extremely useful, not just in the context of the insight week, but also more generally. It provided a good idea for what the nature of a job in investment management would be like.
The parts where we got to engage with the Directors of Research was extremely insightful and informative. Loved the networking sessions as well. However, quite a lot of time was allocated for soft skills training which may not be too relevant for those who are interested in really just finding out about imvestment management or want to experience the role of an analyst.
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight during my time at Fidelity. The employees and people were all very friendly and welcoming, encouraging you to ask questions and learn about the industry and the company. Throughout the week, I gained a great insight into Investment Management and the opportunities to network with seniors and also get hands on experience through an Equity Research project were extremely valuable.
Good insight programme into who Fidelity is and what investment management entails. It was enjoyable overall however, there was a lot of sitting down and listening to talks. Training sessions on resilience and presentation skills were helpful but would prefer it to be shorter. It gets better when we are given a stock pitch to work on.
I really enjoyed my time at Fidelity International. The internship gave the right balance of guiding me where I needed while at the same time giving me the freedom to have autonomy over my work. The general atmosphere at Fidelity is lovely with people always willing to help and work cooperatively together.
Fidelity worked really hard to make this week as enjoyable as possible. There were lots of fun activities and everyone was friendly, so although I came away knowing that this wasn’t a career I was interested in, I still really enjoyed myself a lot and had made some great friends. Would definitely recommend.
