I have done 3 different roles during my year however my primary role is Project leading. As a project lead, I am responsible for overseeing a project from request to completion. This requires the managing of facility discussions, the production of quotes and gantts chart during planning and assisting review set ups and sign offs.
Undertaking the key cyber security lifecycle deliverables applied in the context of chassis systems. Applying academic knowledge to industry problems, developing task planning, time management and teamwork skills. Understanding and developing cyber security analysis, automotive cyber security mitigation techniques, automotive cyber security testing and understanding of chassis systems. Working with multiple different teams on multiple different systems to deliver Cyber Security.
I work in the Global Digital Operations team, where I focus on the development and auditing of our Digital Platforms. In addition, I manage key day-to-day responsibilities and ad-hoc tasks relating to website maintenance and co-ordination, both internally and with our external agencies. I also work in Global Financial Services, in particular helping to increase the retention of customer finance contract renewals. Currently within this is a UK roll-out, which will eventually be rolled-out globally.
My day-to-day role varies depending on what the manufacturing plan for the site I work on is. Sometimes I can be running a machine during a build. When we are not building I can be setting up new machines, fixing problems on existing machines or writing reports.
I loved working at JLR as a supply chain intern. It gave me the social skills and confidence to kick on with my career, having previously been unsure about what I should do. Moreover, the supply chain industry is a dynamic one, undergoing a lot of digital transformation, and it was exciting to see how JLR are coping with it. Therefore, I learnt a lot about the way in which supply chains are being disrupted at a global level.
The main reason I enjoyed this placement was the people and the culture. Everyone was welcoming from the start and were always willing to help. I felt like I fitted in from Day one. Working at Jaguar Land Rover allowed me to work in a wide range of areas of the business. I was able to work with many different people in many different teams. I enjoyed this variety as no two weeks were the same. The work was also varied keeping me captivated at all times.
The placement was fantastic - I thoroughly enjoyed working within my team and my colleagues were extremely helpful. The company as a whole is excellent to work for with plenty of support from each department. The work I was completing was meaningful and its impact on the business was visible, even from my junior level.
The internship was a good mix of being taught technical knowledge and at the same time spent time showing cool things around the business (such as durability course, facility tours, environmental rooms etc.) Therefore it was interesting and also taught me a lot of skills.
I was kept busy with a good variety of work throughout my placement which meant that I didn't get bored during the work day. The work I was doing also felt like it was a benefit to Jaguar Land Rover and that I was actually contributing to my team. I also felt valued by my team as they appreciated my contribution to reducing the workload.
The work placement at JLR was a really good one. It was a slow start for the first 2 weeks but things got very interesting and busy quite quickly. The work I was given was quite important to the company and I felt like I was making a real impact on the business so I really enjoyed the work and the responsibilities that were given.
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement. I was in a great team of colleagues who were really welcoming and helpful. Knowing I was an intern, most of the people in my team, if doing anything interesting or different, would invite me to tag along, meaning I wasn't just st in the office doing the same thing the whole time. The work I was also asked to complete was also really interesting so kept me enthusiastic with the role.
I have worked for JLR for two summer placements and have loved my time here. I have been involved in a variety of work including research, presentations and hands on benchmarking. Whilst only being in a team for 12 weeks, I learned a huge amount and was able to make a good contribution.
Thoroughly enjoyed working with my team. Learned new skills that i will be able to take forward for future job roles. The work was rewarding and it has been satisfying to know that the work i have done has contributed to the success of the company. Given the opportunity, i would not hesitate to come back to the company and i would happily work with the team i have already worked with, but i would also be open to exploring other areas of the business to broaden my understanding of the business processes.
I had a good time and met lots of great people as well as learning new skills, however there were quite a few times when i didn't have lots of work to do. I enjoyed the exposure to the working world and also to the automotive industry and how I've learnt a lot about data quality.
