I worked with Laing O'Rourke this summer on a residential tower superstructure site next to Canary Wharf called Wood Wharf Tower. I very much enjoyed the work on the site and felt part of the team who were there. Everyone was friendly and accommodating, making me feel comfortable to ask questions in order to learn more about the business.
It is generally good fun to work here. Peaks and troughs in the workload, but overall a very rewarding experience in terms of seeing something be built, especially when you get to be involved first hand. Placement students are often given a lot of responsibility too- which is daunting but also exciting, and the best part of the placement.
Had amazing opertunity of being on a job that allowed me to be involved in loss of different aspects of civil engineering, from pipelaying to concrete wall pours to ducting. I was involved in the vast majority of setting out as well as all the QA surrounding concrete and pipework.
I enjoyed working on this placement over the summer. I feel it allowed me to gain valuable experience within the construction industry. It was also very good getting exposure on such a large project, something that will definitely strengthen my CV. Even though i've decided it probably wasn't for me, I still valued and enjoyed my time there.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time working on the Thames Tideway Project. Being given a chance to work on a project that will make a meaningful contribution to improving the quality of the environment, not only the whole of London but the entire UK, is exactly why I wanted to work for Laing O'Rourke.
Worked on a commercial block in the heart of Central London with a great team and good salary. The company has treated me very well and has offered a summer placement for next year with the view for a graduate job offer. Would recommend anyone to go work for them.
I had an amazing first summer placement with Laing Orourke. I had never worked on a construction site before so I learned so much during my time spent there. My colleagues were all friendly and helpful and there were other students there who made the experience even better.
I enjoyed my placement immensely. I learnt a lot throughout and I had the opportunity to work with amazing engineers. I have worked onsite before so it was nice entering a job knowing a little of how it worked. It was not as enjoyable as previous placements however because I often worked on my own. I had previously only used a total station with another engineer so to use it on my own with a remote was a different experience.
It was a pleasure working for Laing O'Rourke. People here were friendly from day one, always willing to give guidance and explain everything behind each task allocated. Integrating in the team was very easy and smooth and it did not take long before they started to give me real responsibilities.
I very much enjoyed my time on placement putting in to practice what I am learning in my degree. I felt an immediate part of the team and my opinion and contribution was valued. I felt I gained enough responsibility to match my confidence in the role.
