I thoroughly enjoyed my time at ASI. Each week had a different challenge and I always felt like I learning something new. I will come out of this internship a far more skilled individual than what I was previously and I've made plenty new friends during the last 10 weeks
I found the internship with Standard Life really enjoyable. From day one everyone was very friendly and made an effort to include me within the team. I enjoyed the work I was given and enjoyed coming to work over the 10 weeks. Of the internships I have done, this been the one I most enjoyed, due to the culture and atmosphere within the office.
During my internship, I really enjoyed the team I was working with. They were ambitious individuals yet sometimes I felt excluded. They gave me very repetitive tasks and I did not feel like I am developing any new knowledge or skills. I spent one-month doing photocopies. I understand I was an intern, but doing photocopies was a bit too cliche.
As a company and socially I had enjoyed standard life, however, the actual scheme and the projects I received were not particularly enjoyable. Socially it works well because they pay to accommodate all the non Edinburgh based interns in a block of flats 20min walk from the office which is good to meet fellow interns. The actual work was devoid of interest and monotonous tasks, more applicable to a work experience scheme rather than an internship.
The internship was very enjoyable, the work was stimulating and valuable to the company- I really appreciated being a valued team member. My colleagues made an effort to invite me to social events/ team lunches to get to know me so the work/life balance was great! All in all, it was an enjoyable 10 weeks.
Really enjoyed my internship at Standard Life, got a great insight into the company, and the finance teams at standard life investments. I got to rotate and work with 4 different teams across SLI finance, which meant I got to see what each team does, how their work ties into the bigger picture, and I also got to meet almost all of the finance team.
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at SLI. I was given a challenging and fulfilling project to complete as the core of my 10-week experience, which gave me fantastic context into my team, the company and the industry as a whole. There were many opportunities to learn in a very inclusive culture, and with support from a wide network of fellow interns, our allocated 'buddies', graduates and senior colleagues. One slight caveat is that in many senses 10 weeks is too short to gain full understanding of the company, team or role, but this is true for all internships.
From the start I was given interesting projects with meaningful outcomes. This really helped with enjoying the work as I knew I was adding value and not just doing some random project. The atmosphere within the office was always welcoming and friendly and it was very easy to settle in quickly. Specific events and workshops for all the interns throughout the company gave a good opportunity to network and graduate charity events during and after work gave another good opportunity to network with younger employees.
I really enjoyed the insight at Aberdeen Asset Management. The event was split into about eight parts, where people from different parts of the business would introduce their roles to us and allow us to ask them questions. What I liked about this event is that we were given the opportunity to lead it. The focus was more on asking questions which helped us get the information we were looking for.
The overall internship I really appreciated and enjoyed. I found my actual daily role slightly less enjoyable as I was spending a lot of my time dealing with very detailed information which led to me completing a key project over my time but didn't give me the overview of different parts of HR that I would have appreciated. However we were given opportunities to reach out and network across the business to find out more about the different parts of HR.
I very much enjoyed my internship. I was given a thorough overview of the company but was also given a project that suited my skills and challenged me. There were also opportunities to gain experience through attending a variety of meetings and meetings were set up for us to find out more about certain areas of standard life
I really enjoyed my placement at Standard Life. I met a lot of people in various departments and I was able to get a view of all the parts of finance I could be involved with. My role was in the Operations function and having had an internship before I knew this wouldn't be my ideal position but all of the people I worked with were really nice and helpful.
